Suggestions for storing spare gun parts?

Like most of you guys I have a few different guns and I have accumulated a fair amount of spare parts, aftermarket parts, accessories and so on. I'm trying to figure out the best way to organize and store all the parts for the different guns. I like the idea of using a simple plastic storage case like this --> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004X14L/...ords=akro+mils I got the idea from reading this article here -->http://www.itstactical.com/warcom/ac...ve-compulsive/

I think that the solution in that article is great for a platform like the AR, but the problem is that if I get a separate case for each different gun I'm going to have a huge stack of these piling up. I found that its not as simple as saying one box for Glock, one for 1911's, etc etc... If you have some high end models as well as lower end, and some you've upgraded yourself, you are left with a bunch of parts that you may want to keep track of and not interchange between different guns. I bought one of the cases to try out, and they are pretty bulky. I haven't found a smaller one with enough compartments for all the spares that one may end up with, especially if you have a couple of aftermarket parts on standby. Its definitely better than my current system of storing parts in individual ziplock bags and throwing them in an ammo can, but I don't want to end up with a 3 or 4ft stack of these cases one day. How do you guys organize and store all your spare parts?

For handguns, I keep the spare parts in labeled plastic bags inside the boxes. For AR parts, I use the box for a Magpul stock.

      Thanks for the link.

Here's what I'm using, it was $3 at lowes, made in USA, and has a nice postive fit: http://www.amazon.com/SBR-10-Compart...ckon+organizer

They had a 13 compartment that I may go back for: http://www.amazon.com/SBR-13-Compart...ckon+organizer

Also went to Target and bought this, I think it was $7 and you can stack/lock them together. It's also very good quality and has latches, plus it's deeper than the Stack on: http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-STST14...nley+organizer

I like the smaller 10 compartment stackon since it fits in my current range bag and I've got a bunch of spare parts in it, enough to build a few rifles actually and still have spares.

Spare parts and tools require compromise. You can bring every possible thing with you but it's bulky, at that point it may be easier to just have spare guns.

Seriously, this is an issue? Put them in a bag, and put them with the rest of your gun paraphernalia.

It's not an issue. I'm curious to see what's working for others that have accumulated a lot of gun related parts and like to stay organized without having a bunch of random gun part boxes with crap thrown in them.

I agree with you here. I typically don't carry spares on a regular range outing but I also will have a few different guns with me. If I'm doing a trip out of town where I'll be shooting for a couple of days that's different. Even then I don't carry spares like the guy in that article. Gas rings for the AR, and a spare recoil spring for a high round count pistol and that's usually it.

Put 'em together and make a spare gun.

The Stack-On storage boxes they sell on Amazon are low cost, have removable dividers, and get the job done nicely. I have several. They have 10 and 13 compartment versions, both under $10.

Once I find the accessory that I like, I rarely change it again so spares go in separate zip lock bags labeled with what's inside. Those get stuffed into a cardboard box with all other spares, taped up, and stuffed on a shelf in the garage.

Bag & label the small parts and store in a tacklebox. Eventually I want to mount a rollaway tool box in my reloading bench and dedicated a draw just for spare parts.

Along OP lines, I find these are the bees knees:

Stanley 014725 25-Removable Compartment Professional Organizer

Stanley 10 Removable Bin Compartment Deep Professional Organizer

The advantage over fixed compartment styles is you can take out each compartment to work with the parts, move 'em around etc. They're stackable and pretty sturdy.
