Handgun Safety Certificate question...

I was wondering if I could take the HSC test while I'm still 20. I know it sounds strange, but I will definitely be buying myself a handgun when I turn 21 in a year so I wanted to get this certificate out of the way.

Sorry if you guys think this is an absurd question but I'm really curious and didn't find anything online that mentioned age requirements for taking the test.

Yes, you can. You must, in order to receive a handgun via intrafamilial transfer.

Sometimes a store/dealer might not know that, since FFLs cannot transfer to under-21.

Just the test. It's common sense.

The fee for taking the Handgun Safety Certificate Test and obtaining a Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) is twenty five dollars ($25). The $25 fee entitles you to take the test twice if necessary.

PC 12803 discusses that you must be 18+ to take the test if they give you grief.

Theres no class. It's a multiple choice test.

There's a "Handgun Safety" booklet you can use to study for the test if you are not familiar with handguns and their operations. The gun store should have a copy of the booklet. Turner's sells it for 50 cents IIRC.

I know some of you here may say it is unnecessary because most of the questions are intuitive, but I say it doesn't hurt.

I'm pretty familiar with both auto and revolver handguns. I shoot my father's Beretta 92 and his .357 Ruger revolver when we hit up the range.
