Is it possible to get a usp tactical then have a threaded barrel installed, as long as the barrel has a thread protector on it? Would the thread protector have to be pinned/welded?

If it has a pin/weld thread protector I believe so, but it would definitely be an assault pistol otherwise... -
Yup, the thread protector must be permanently attached to be CA compliant.sigpicComment

I wonder if anyone makes a mimic barrel that's knurled like a thread protector but the same OD so you could field strip it?Comment

The easiest way would be to buy a normal USP 45 barrel and keep the threaded barrel as it is for collection/future sales purpose.
You will probably never shoot suppressed and the increased barrel length doesn't mean much.
I have a HK45 Tactical and this is what I did.Comment
