    Do you like .480?

    Admittedly it's a reloader's cartridge, but when you think about it - 400g .475 bullet at 1200fps, it's impressive.

Even the vaunted .475 Linebaugh, by Linebaugh's own admission, should be used between 1000 ~ 1200fps for hunting.

It's the same weight and speed as a shotgun slug with a smaller diameter for WAY better penetration. Shotgun slugs are known for penetration, so...

It is the smallest of the uber magnums, just before wrist pain. Something you can shoot a few and still enjoy it.

I have one, but I'm a reloader & caster, so ammo costs only powder, primers and lead.

I'd love to know your thoughts on this cartridge. I like it, do you?

I do not have a .480 and have never shot one but for some reason I am drawn to the cartridge like a moth to the flame. Maybe some folks will chime in and tell me how terrible it is so I can stop thinking about picking one up.

Hey Snapping Twig, I like em. .475 linebaugh is fun to shoot in my F/A m/83.
.480 is also fun to shoot in my Ruger Alaskan but I think it has more felt recoil than the m/83.
For me they're great range toys.
I hope the rounds gain in popularity.

An Alaskan is probably like shooting an alloy J frame .357!

More felt recoil... perhaps a bit of understatement?

        I have a 4" .44 Mountain Revolver and a 3" 629-2 that's ported. Guess which one has harsh recoil... hint... it's not the 3".

        Mass/weight are your friends here.

        I'd live to have Linebaugh make me a 4 5/8" .475.

Shooting hand cannons is fun until it draws blood. A .475 revolver with a 5" barrel firing 400 grain hard cast at 1200 fps is going to get your blood going. I shoot 405 grain hard cast out of my 16.5" 45/70 TC Contender near 1400 fps and it's a bruiser. If a 475 is your caliber by all means go for it.

              Pics... OK

350g bullet, lightweight and... a bit faster than 1200fps.

              As I bought it.

New grips and a green FO front sight.

I got lucky and found an original in 6 shot instead of 5 and the original, but admittedly fragile finish - but I like it!

You should see what it does to one of those C-More targets!

Makes a round shock ring that's just a wee bit larger than other calibers.

I don't own a .480 but I have shot one before. It was an eye opening experience. I put the first round downrange, set the revolver down, went and put on my PAST shooting glove, and fired the remaining four rounds in the cylinder, each one being an exercise in resisting the urge to flinch. I was struck by both the inherent accuracy and by the strong desire never to repeat the experience.

If you have a use for such a beast, go for it.

Worst pain from a handgun for me was a TC Contender in 44 mag and 35 Rem.

Just didn't fit my hand, hurt like the blue blazes.

I enjoy recoil, but I'm not nutz. Grips fit the hand, gun is a pleasure to shoot.

Really liking the .480 and I'll admit giggling like a little girl when I light it off.
