    Glock Experts Please

I am debating buying a Police Trade in. If I do, what do you recommend replacing on the gun? At the end of the day, is it cost effective?

A couple years ago I bought a police trade in Gen 2 G19. I ended up buying a new recoil spring and guide rod and a couple other bits and pieces I can't remember at the moment, but honestly I've yet to have to change out any parts on it and it still runs as well as my much newer Gen 3 G17. Generally I think if you're getting a police trade in and its in the $250-$399 range its usually worth it. New Glocks in my neck of the woods tend to be upwards of $500 to $600 depending on the model.

From my understanding is that police trade-ins are great purchases because officers tend to not use their firearms often, which means they're in great condition, despite the holster wear. But if anything, I'd look over the recoil spring and extractor to ensure they are in good shape.

I got an agency trade in G19 oh maybe 3 years ago.

        Probably my best investment ever.

All I did was replace the recoil spring and guide rod assembly and it was fine. That was like six dollars.

Has been fine for over two thousand rounds.

Some guys say you should replace the trigger spring with the NY 1 + 3.5# connector because its more reliable than the standard spring.

        I haven't.

Buy it with no worries. Run it for a while and it won't need any parts. Really a good way to get a Glock.

Only concern should be holster wear which can be solved with cerakote.

Depends on the price you are getting. New ones are going from 499 to 519. 9 and 40. 45s and comp models are higher.

I highly doubt the gun was shot much, but I'd take it apart, clean it throughly and replace all the springs anyway for your own peace of mind. Then put 2-3 boxes of ammo through it to make sure it functions perfectly. 9mm?

Buy it and join GSSF. An armorer will give it a once over for free and replace what it needs if you bring it to a match and then you can shoot it. Plus you have the chance to win a random Glock pistol award.

Clean it well, including taking the mags apart, and then give it a run. More than likely you don't have to replace anything. They probably get shot less than gun you'd buy from a private party, but they will have a lot more holster wear. Aside from the cosmetics, those things are probably DBLNIB (dusty but like new in box).

Not worth it for me, unless it is $350 out the door and include 2 magazines and box. Other, I would go 450-500 PPT or new at 550. I like new stuff in this price range.

Springs are the first to go and are maintenance parts. Not replacing them yet, but I would order them and have them at the ready: recoil spring, firing pin spring, and magazine spring.
Maybe the slide stop lever, because there is one curved spring in there as well, but rarely do I hear they go bad/worn out.

Buy it, take it to a Glock armorer who will replace needed parts for free.

sub 400 OTD and with 3 blocked mags would be the ticket. otherwise you need to buy 2-3 10rnd mags $ 25 each....so the saving goes out the window fast.

buy and dont worry about it. fix what breaks (if anything). service handguns have so little wear its scary.
