Apex Sigma Spring Kit...is it worth it?

Anybody try this kit? Did it make a significant difference?

I am not a fan of aftermarket triggers in my handguns. I tend to be more of a self defense minded shooter and I like the reliability of a factory trigger.

However, I have never enjoyed the heavy pull weight of my Sigma SW40P. This was my father's gun, and he gave it to me for my 40th birthday. Not too much of a stretch to imagine why...a .40 for your 40th. I thought it was very nice of him. As a gun guy, no better present than a new gun.

It is a nice gun. It is comfortable, well built, it just has a very heavy trigger. I do appreciate it. Would never sell it. I'd just like to see if I can't make it a little bit better if I can so it sees more use.

So after two years of not wanting to break my steadfast rule of no aftermarket triggers in my handguns...I broke down and bought the APEX Sigma Spring Enhancement Kit (making sure to get the Sigma version and not the SD Version).

Supposed to arrive in a few days. I'll post updates on how difficult or easy the install was, how much of a difference it made, and whether or not I think it was worth the $22 after I have had some time to play with it.

I installed it on an SD9VE, and it made a huge difference. So for $20, I'd say yes.

On my SD9VE it was amazing. Great decision.

I am hoping it will have as good of a result, but this is not the SD version it is the other version. My sigma is part of the last line before they came out with the SD series. Requires a different kit. Which could mean different results. Hopefully not.

Our gun collections are sounding shockingly similar. First the Colt AR now this?

Why do people habitually buy something only to ask if it's worth it AFTER the fact?

Why do people feel the need to rain on someone else's parade?

I am just curious to know what other peoples experiences were like so I can manage my expectations. Leaving it as is, however, wasn't an option. Collecting too much dust.

The internals are very similar and I hear good things on a Sigma kit. Just don't try that homespun, YouTube stuff.

Just remember that the Sigma, like the Glock uses the trigger pull to finish off cocking the striker, then trips the sear to release it unlike the M&P which simply pivots the sear to release the fully cocked striker. The spring kit changes the spring tension on the trigger return, striker and striker block to give an overall lower trigger pull weight. It doesn't change the fact that the trigger still has to finish off cocking the striker. You will still have a "springiness" in the trigger take up before the break, it will simply be lower than the original.

If you know that and expect it, you will like the improvement with the Apex kit.

OP- thanks for this- let us know how it turns out. I remember when the Sigma series first came out- brings back cool memories- heavy trigger and all, but if one is available and this kit works I may just have to get one. Great story on how you got the pistol also. Great shooting!

I bought an apex spring kit for my SD as well. Still in shipping.

I trust the apex kit coz it does a great job on my M&p core. I would expect $10/lb improve on my SD9ve.

                        I have installed spring kits on a SD9 and a SW40.
                        Big improvement for $20.

Got the kit tonight. Just finished installing it. Took me a good 30 minutes. Some things were a little more difficult to get lined up than others.

Makes a huge difference. Much lighter pull. Still longer than I would like, as is the reset. But the bull weight is night and day better.

Of course, the proof is in the pudding. Gotta get a few 1000 rounds down the pipe before I can issue a final verdict. But thus far I have hope that this terminal safe queen just became a shooter.

Glad you ended up with good results !

For others contemplating this mod what skill level would you suggest they have to do it on their own?

Beginner to intermediate. So long as you follow the video and have some patience you'll be OK. Some of it was tricky. Getting the trigger pin out and back in took a bunch of attempts and even a breather or two in-between. Getting the end plate off and back on was a lot trickier than on a Glock. Shouldn't have been. But it was. Other than that everything was very simple and easy. But you really need to watch the video step by step and not just figure it out on your own. Because there are some tricks to doing it right.
