Question on TRP front sight dimensions

I have a new TRP, no rail, and am looking for a fiber-optic front sight to go along with my Wilson Combat Speed Sight rear sight, which already has been installed.

I ordered a Wilson Combat fiber-optic front sight, the dimensions of which are .200" height, .300" x 60 degrees. Brought it in to my gunsmith. He removed the factory front sight and said the Wilson front sight (.300" x 60 degrees) was too small in width for the TRP, which looked to him to be .330" x 65 degrees.

Before I order a .330" x 65 front sight, can anyone confirm that is the right size? (I am a little confused because the 10-8 Performance site states that their .330" x 65 degrees front sight does not fit Springfield Armory 1911). Also, can anyone give advice on what fiber-optic front sight brands work well with their TRP? I would appreciate anyone's input.

Dawson Precision has the correct sights for Springfield 1911's.

I believe that both Springfield and Wilson have proprietary front sight dovetails. Dawson Precision makes a fiber optic front sight specifically listed for the Springfield.

The one negative to the Dawson sight is the base doesn't match the profile of the slide on the TRP (or at least mine didn't). The base is thicker than the stock sight and more squared off. Probably not a big deal unless you are really into the aesthetic details. Great sight otherwise.

What width did you go with?

Yep, not quite as wide as the dovetail cut in the slide. They work great though.

Actually the Dawson sights on your TM look better than on my TRP. With the slide profile of the TRP, the sight base is not only more narrow than the dove tail, they sit up out of the dove tail due to the slide profile.

Here is a picture of a Warren Tactical, albeit with Warren sights, but a similar base to the Dawson and the slide profile is similar to the TRP.

I went with the .125" width ramped sight, which I believe is the most narrow of the ramped sights that Dawson Precision makes for the Springfield. It was out of stock, but according to DP's web site, they make and ship sights quickly, even when they are out of stock.

I went with the .200" height, because I think that is what I need for the Wilson Combat Speed Sight rear, according to Wilson's web site.

I really like the TRP, but the dot on the stock front tritium sight is too small for me to pick up clearly. It gets dirty after a few rounds, too. Also, I am not a big fan of three dot sights to begin with, and prefer an all black rear with fiber-optic front.

I am with you on the TRP's sights, terrible. The upgrade will make an immense difference, night and day in both speed and accuracy.

My favorite sight setup on a gun is the Warren Tactical pictured above. The front sight is the same as you are getting (except a little narrower), the rear is a wide semi U notch. The combination for me makes an unbeatable combination of lighting speed and still excellent accuracy. I think you will be getting similar results.
