    Springfield Loaded 1911 problem...

So my gun is pretty new, less than 500 rounds. Everything has been perfect so far until today. I was out shooting and got through one mag just fine. On the second mag, got a couple rounds in and squeezed the trigger. Nothing. Not just nothing but the hammer didn't drop. Drop the mag, eject the round, release the slide, pull the trigger, nothing, hammer doesn't drop. Field strip the gun and everything looks fine on quick inspection, reassemble. Rack the slide a few times, pull the trigger and nothing. The hammer is stuck in the fully cocked position. Safety functions normally. Slide functions normally it just won't drop the hammer.

Before I swing by a local shop and contact Springfield to send it in, anyone have any ideas what to check? Or has anyone seen anything like this before.

    Thanks in advance.

Is your ILS engaged? Maybe it got bumped into place somehow?

Does the trigger have an overtravel screw? Try backing it out a few turns. If that doesn't help, you might consider detail stripping it and check out the disconnector and hammer strut.

ILS not engaged. I'll try the over travel screw in the morning.

          This!

Can you verify that the disconnector is working properly?

Hopefully it's one of these 2 things^^ if not Springfield has been known for their great customer service.

I'll double down: hammer strut broke and jammed the the mainspring and the rest of the parts inside the housing the the cocked position.

Send it back before you mess something up, SA CS is better than excellent, you'll have it back before you know it.

                Free shipping both ways also.

                  Hammer strut shouldn't break at 500 rounds. I'm guessing a spring/pin issue.

Thanks to youtube I successfully disassembled the gun completely. All internal parts look fine, nothing broken. I reassembled everything, cocked the hammer, pulled the trigger while lowering the hammer and it dropped fine. Cocked it again and it's stuck, will not drop. Calling SACS tomorrow.

I think before I send it in I'm going to try and put in a Wilson Combat sear, disconnect and sear spring. Then if all else fails back it goes.

                          SA will make it right.

I've delt with their CS by sending pistols back to them. Best CS I've ever felt with in the gun indursty. Hopefully you receive the same as I.

FYI, those parts won't simply just drop in. If you want those parts installed, they're going to have to be fitted to your gun. You either need to know how to fit them to do it yourself or have a professional gunsmith fit them. Your best bet is going to be to just send it back to SA and let them take care of it. They have one of the best CS in the industry and you'll have your gun back fairly soon.

One other thing, to verify that the disconnector is working properly, field strip the gun and simply push on the top of the disconnector. If the disconnector bounces back up, then it's working properly. If it doesn't come back up, it probably means that the middle leaf on the sear spring isn't providing enough force to push the disconnector back up. Give it a try, it's a really quick check.

OP did you try the overtravel screw? Remove it completely first and then give it a shot.
