    Slim Single Stack options

I'm working on an series of articles on concealed carry options. Right now I'm looking at these criteria:
    1. Light Weight
    2. Slim, 1" or less or at least very close
    3. Single Stack
    4. Semi Auto

Only looking for 9mm handguns suitable for concealed carry that are on roster in CA. And from what I'm seeing it's not much.

    Correct me if I'm missing one but for single stack 9mm it looks like Kahr's (P9, PM9, K9, MK9 and CW9), S&W M&P 9 Shield the Sig 250.

*Ruger LC380 that is possibly going to have a drop in kit to convert to 9mm. Are there any other rule benders out there like this?

I don't think SIG 250 is a single stack. Plus not much CA version were made and discontinued.

Maybe a SIG P239 is slim enough.

P250 is double stack. Sig P239 is single stack - not less than 1" though

Shield 9 is my favorite 9mm carry gun. Also, it's nice to shoot unlike my lightweight 380s which will be going bye bye soon.

But probably not want to carry one.
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

Kahr cw9. It's about the lightest for its size and the grip is just big enough for someone with average hands to fit all of their fingers on it. The long trigger pull is a love it or hate it type of thing though

                      Kahr
                      p9 15oz
                      pm9 14oz
                      cw9 16oz

                      M&p9 19oz

I think I am going to have to drop the sig due to availability, weight and not being a single stack. Also I'm going to drop the k9 and mk9 for weight.

                      As to the EMP...
                      1. Alloy frame, 28 oz unloaded 28oz? That is literally twice the weight of a PM9 and more then half a pound heavier then the next heaviest gun on the list.

                      2. 0.925" slide, 1.125" grip. You can't claim how thin a gun is because of it's thinnest part. Especially with the grips being the hardest part to conceal. All of the guns above are less then 1".

                      3. What's your life worth. DING! And that right there is the single worst argument ever and I see it used on Calguns daily. They have not even invented a unit of measurement yet that can sum up how big a hole there is in that logic. If you could simply buy quality then Consumer Reports would not exist, Jags would be far more reliable then Honda's, and Desert Eagles would never jam. Lines like this have become a crutch to replace critical thinking but even worse they are used constantly to put new gun owners down and to make certain people feel superior about themselves.

                      4. Accurate as **** Lets face facts, we are talking about concealed carry guns. The average shooting distance here is less then 7'. To top that off there is a whole series on youtube of people using kahr pistols to hit 100 yard shots. Honestly I feel that Kahr, with their P series of polygonal barrels are just as ridiculous. Unless I'm shooting my sub compact from a bench rests then they are about as accurate as anything else on this list if not less so.

Sig P239. SINGLE STACK 9mm or 40. Free state version is on the roster, available anywhere. No CA nanny state features. Factory 10rd mag option. Carried by US Navy Seals and other operators, NCIS, NSW, ICE, DHS. Yeah, if you only go a buck-50 wet, probably too heavy for you.

The selection process included pistols manufactured by several companies and involved the most extensive governmental testing and evaluation process since the historic military trials of the 1980s that resulted in the replacement of the Model 1911 .45 by the Beretta 9mm as the U.S. Armed Forces standard sidearm. The recent tests were in fact much more advanced and sophisticated than those earlier tests. Throughout the entire DHS testing the SIG pistols earned the highest scores possible

                            I carry every single day.

The most important part of carrying is being comfortable. I've noticed there are 2 major factors that come into play when carrying. Weight and grip length. Slide width is in second place followed by slide length. I prefer to pocket carry because it offers the most comfort. No gun trying to pop the button off your pants(slide width) or destroy your nuts(slide length). Now how many rounds does it hold? With those 5 factors in play....lets compare!

                            Glock 26 Shield 9mm
                            Weight Unloaded 21.7oz 19.0oz
                            Slide Width 1.18" .95"
                            Frame Height 4.17" 4.6"
                            Overall Length 6.41" 6.1"
                            Capacity 10+1 7 or 8+1

Out of these five the biggest plus in my experience to the Shield is the slide width. That slide width on the Glock also makes it shoot better than the shield. The weight difference between the two is negligible and I couldn't tell the difference. The frame height on the Glock makes it quite a bit easier to conceal with an inside the waist style holder. Once you put the 8 round pinky extended magazine in the shield, it almost has the same frame height as a Glock 19. The length on the Glock on paper looks longer but realistically, I regularly carry a Sig P229R which is about 2 inches longer and it is still comfortable. Both the 26 and Shield are short enough to where it won't be stabbing you in the nuts. The capacity was the major deciding factor for me. A flush fit magazine with 10 rounds vs a flush fit magazine with 7. O and don't forget, if you're already invested in the glock platform, it will take every single 9mm glock/magpul magazine you got and function without fault.

My one and only recommendation is the Glock 26. I debated buying a shield at great length. It took me about a year of research and experience with both pistols to buy the Glock. The Glock 26 is easily a 25 yard pistol for the average shooter. I shoot it past that with ease. When the Glock 42/43 came out, I didn't even look twice because I believe the 26 is the best 9mm sub compact carry pistol. My Glock 26 went swimming in the ocean with me for 2 weeks while I was on vacation and hasn't had a single hiccup. Another important factor as a CCW carrier is.....Are you carrying a firearm for personal protection? Or are you carrying for personal protection and being able to rise to the occasion and defend innocent life from an active shooter in a mall/movie/school/church attack? I think the 26 would out perform the shield in a "combat" role due to its superior capacity and ease of operation.
