Inquiry Re: Ed Brown Special Forces

So I guess you can say I got bit bye the 1911 bug several months ago. I'm currently looking at the CA Approved Ed Brown's: Kobra Carry & Special Forces. I initially gravitated to the KC but I thought to myself, "This would probably be a heavy CC pistol and a Glock 30 SF can do the same, probably more reliable, light weight and a lot less expensive. Next, I looked at the Special Forces and I've been hooked ever since. My wife is wanting a 1911, so I figured I'd give her my Springfield Armory (SA) and I'd get one for myself. The purpose of the pistol is HD & Range.

Here are my questions:

1. Is it worth the coin?

2. Is it worth sacrificing two of my revolvers to get the money ball rolling? (I had planned on using one of the revolvers .357 as a side arm during hunts).

*If end up getting this pistol I want be purchasing any new arms for a very long time...

Brother I don't have an Ed Brown, but I have a couple others. I say do the research (which you are) and if its the Ed brown, do it. I would say this keep in mind any SSE you are selling or other collector gun will only go up in value so way this into your decision. Best of suerte.

The only revolvers/pistols I would consider out of my collection that I would "sacrifice" would be On-Roster.

I have heard and read that EB customer service isn't great at all. Compared to Les Baer, *Springfield*, Dan Wesson, and Wilson, EB CS is not nearly as good as theirs.

I've had experience with SA and DW CS and have only read good things about LB, WC, and Nighthawk. My money would go to them, not Brown.

Depending on where you are looking, the Special Forces is only about $2-300 less expensive than a Nighthawk GRP or a used SA Professional, and $400-ish less than a Wilson CQB. As Hopetown metioned above, SA and Wilson have the best CS reputation from what I have read.

I'd rather put my money on a Wilson or a Baer. Or maybe the Springfield pro.

I just called Ed Brown CS to ask a few questions & I only got voice-mail. They're suppose to be open 8 CST. Think I'll look into an SA PC111 or PC9111R

Ed Brown SF is absolutely hands down my favorite pistol I own. Love the chain link, the fit and finish, etc.

Take a look @ 1911forum and you should be able to get a lot of info there.

Ive owned/currently own quite a few 1911's. From a RIA GI to Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Baer, EB and everything in between.

Ed is a real dickhead and he can be hard to deal with when an issue comes up with his pistols. I've had experience first hand with my Special Forces and a loose extractor. Took way too long for it to get fixed for a pistol around $3K.

The finish is excellent on the Ed Brown but for the price the customer service is subpar.

I would not buy an Ed Brown if I could do it again. I'd stick to Les Baers if you want a great pistol with the customer service to boot.

I have a brown and it's a noticeable difference over lets say my trp. I don't get the trp hype at all.
