    Striker fired pistol recommendation

Hey guys. I have a .40 DA/SA Sig 229 and a Springfield TRP Operator 1911. I'm thinking of getting my first striker fired pistol. It will probably be a railed compact. 9mm. Not for carry, but for range and home protection. I would like to get your input on what to select. I realize it boils down to preference. BTW, I have small-ish hands. My main considerations are crisp trigger, ergonomics, and reliability. As far as the obvious choice of Glock 19, I just don't find them comfortable. So aside from Glock, what specific, CA-approved models do you recommend?: HK, FN, Sig, Springfield, CZ, Walther, others? What brands or models are commonly thought to have the best trigger? I dry-fired a Springfield XD and wasn't impressed, but what about the XDm? Thanks.

They are on the WTS forum for a markup. I would look for a VP9 also off roster

Short of a Kahr or FMK, you pretty much don't have any choice for a currently CA-APPROVED Striker Fired pistol that isn't a Glock or Springfield XD. Off-Roster will probably be the way to go, but of course you'll be paying a premium. I have seen some Walther P99s go for a decent price lately, and I'd recommend checking those out if you can. I'd reconsider the Glock 19. If you don't like it, it's one of the easiest guns to resell and not take much of a loss.

If you want a crisp trigger, you're not going to find that in any striker-fired pistol without $100-150 in after market modifications. However, a CZ might fit your other qualifications.

If your sole purpose for your new striker fired pistol is for the range and home defense, I would consider going with a full size pistol in lieu of a compact.

HKVP9, SIG P320 and PPQ have the best striker fired stock triggers, but all are off roster and command a premium on the market. If you have to stay on roster and want to go striker fired, I would reconsider the Gen 3 Glocks 19, 17 or 34 and I would also consider the XD pistols (full size or tactical size).

If you end up going off roster, I would consider the S&W M&P pistols. They seem to be selling for a reasonable price on the market, are reliable, have good ergonomics (changeable backstraps) and have an okay trigger. I picked up a full size M&P in 9mm with night sights and an apex trigger upgrade for $550 last week. Some of the M&Ps have mag disconnect safeties, so be aware.

Trying to decide which pistol to buy is sometimes more fun than actually buying the pistol. Once you have narrowed the selection to one or two, see if you can rent them at your local range before making a final decision.

                      Best of luck.

Agreed, love my VP9, out of the box it's the best striker fired pistol I have ever tried. I am hoping to get another one some day so I can have a spare. I'd love to get a P320 as well, but I don't want to start acquiring yet another magazine type..

                        Good luck sir...

BTW - A Glock with an OEM "-" (minus) connector that's been polished will break nicely at 3.5 lbs, give a decent reset and maintain factory reliability. I have done this to all of my Glocks except one, which has a Ghost EVO Elite connector / springs and that thing breaks so crisp, has a super short / pronounced reset, it's incredible.. It's just too light for a self defense piece at this point.

If you can rent a Glock 26 you might see if you like that any more than the 19. Kind of fits in the hand differently.

Unfortunately they are off roster, but if you look at the handgun ads there are some to be had.

Cant go wrong with sig p320... you can make it into full, compact, and subcompact with one gun.
