Maybe also look at a Springfield Armory XD 9 or 40 subcompact. I have one in .40 and like it a lot. Better feel to it than a glock. In any type of fight, & especially gun fights, there are no winners ..... just varying degrees of losers. The only fight you win is the one you never get into.

I carried for a number of years when I lived in a free State, it's not all it's cracked up to be. First off, get a good holster, IWB is preferred though you have to buy a size bigger jeans, the Galco concealable was the best holster, it kept the sweat off the gun, the gun not touching you and hide the pistol very well. Contrary to popular belief, the full size guns such as the P220 and 1911, though nice was on the heavy side. After trying different models, the gun I came up to like was a GLock 19, this was when Glock only had the G17 and G19 available. Compared to other guns, Glocks were the lightest with higher capacity. my vote glockLast edited by Bongos; 11-22-2008, 5:45 PM.Comment

A lot depends on your build and how you'll be carrying it. Glocks and XDs are thick, while some SIGs, Kahrs, and the like are thinner. The other important thing to me is how well the gun point shoots, as there won't always be time to take a stance and line up the sights, and lighting will be be unpredictable.
For me, it's both thickness and weight that matter. My SIG P239 and XD9 subcompacts were just plain too heavy, at 32 oz loaded, and my P3AT, while very light and slim, was too hard to control. Both the SIG and the P3AT are terrible point shooters for me, so that let them out of the decision.
I ended up with a Kahr PM9, at 20 oz loaded, with a slim profile and good point shooting accuracy for me, and it's my favority subcompact out of the half-dozen or so I've tried.
You should definitely shoot some of the choices to see what'll work best for you in an emergency.sigpic

I actually sorta agree with that. I do have a CCW but don't find myself carrying all the time. I'd say I carry about 60% of the time I'm away from the house (not including work, at which I can't carry.) With that said, I do like the ability to be able to decide if I want to carry or not.
I started off carrying a G23, then went to a Taurus PT145. I now mostly just slip my j-frame in my pocket when I do carry. The G30 is a bit blocky to be carrying, especially if you want to carry it IWB. Take a look at the G26 also.Sent from Free AmericaComment
