P229 grip questions

Hello everyone,

I purchased a Sig P229 with E2 grips but i noticed that they are lose. Not so much where it will fall off, and it does not affect my shooting, but just a slighty lose. I was thinking to replace the grips with Hogue grips, and if I do that, is there anything i need to replace (internally) before swapping the grips?

Not really. But you are planning to sell the E2 grip the new owner will need yours hammer strut and main spring base. The E2 hammer strut and main spring base will work on both grip.

bad install or you have the older parts installed...

Does your frame have screw holes tapped or was it one of the newer E2 frames that had them removed?
I know they did this with the 227, but not sure about the other models.

Yea, me neither. When I had mine on, they were very snug.

If it's the left side thats loose be careful of your Decocking Lever Spring It will come out of the notch and the gun won't reset.

Yes, happened to me at the range during CCW qualify. I fixed it, qualified and always make sure the grip panel is tight.

They are the newer E2 frame. I will take it in to a gun smith to see if there is an issue with the frame or the grips are not installed correctly.

My e2 fit very snug. I think they are excellent, except when holstered aginst bare skin. Lol grip rash sucks. First try using you grip removal tool and see if they are seated wrong. I've found that a playing card or club card placed on the frame on the right side over the trigger return spring will help prevent the e2 from unooking it. When the e2 shell is in place pull the card out and it should snap into place. If you bought that pistol new with those grips you should call sig customer service. 1 (603) 418-8102.

i will try that today when i get home. not sure if i would carry this IWB because of the grip rash. the grips do feel great, they even feel better than my hogue G10 grips on my P226 scorpion. i would like to keep them on since they feel comfy, but if not, i will just get G10 grips for it. Love the 229 too...

I have a 229 and hate the bump on the left side of the grip from the decocking lever...Will the E2 grips take care of this? I love the flat sides of my 1911's but do like the size of the 229

No, the E2 grips have it too. does not bother me too much but it is noticeable.

I took off my grips and then reinstalled them back on and now everything is okay. it is snuggle like a bug. thanks everyone.

Thanks for the heads up on the E2 grip....I hate the bump just as much as I hate Glocks....Might have to sell the P229 that is how much I hate the bump.

the bump is not that bad on the E 2 grips. I hate the chamber indicator on top of the slide, but won't get rid of the gun because of that. although, I am wondering if i can some how get rid of it.
