I know an lapd officer that carries a glock 22 as primary sidearm and a glock 27 as secondary precisely because he can use the 22 mags in the 22 and the 27.

Probably for emergency home/self defense? One mag working in two guns can definitely be advantageous.

It fills in the gap, allowing for a consistent grip, and protects the part of the magazine that otherwise would be exposed. (It also theoretically prevents over-insertion, although I am skeptical of this being an real issue with a double stack magazine).

Yes. Any of the larger mags will fit in the smaller guns.

It's more beneficial to use the longer spare mag IF your pinky hangs over the magwell and may be pinched during a stressful reload. I would advise against the grip sleeve because of this. You will also gain a bit more purchase with the longer mag to help with the stress. This is really more of a concern with the subbie than other frames.

I carry a Sig P224 and a spare P229 mag for this instance. Max concealment with plan for reload under stress. Different guns, same concept.

10 rounders, 17 or 19 blocked mags can be iffy on function period.


But thats a whole other issue. I shoot 17 mags out of my 23 and 19's all the time. Sometimes I'm just too lazy to sort my mags appart for a basic range run.
