Generic Gun Show 1911 Mags

Anyone have experiences with these? My friend said they're $10-15.

I'm a first time 1911 owner and was wondering if I should pick a few up.

If they are 7 rounders they probably aren't too bad. If they are 8-9 round .45 they will definitely be worse than a Wilson Combat which are my go to everyman mags. Is having 3 bad mags that work 50% of the time better than having 1 mag that works 90% of the time? It's up to you.

The gun itself also plays apart my choice in mags.
I have some of the cheap gunshow mags.
The dont work for crap in my stock colt 1911 failure to feeds constantly and one even stops the slide from going all the way into battery.
But in my Colt custom shop 1911 they work with no problems at all.

You can do better if you shop around online and at gun shows. I like the Kimber stainless steel 8-rd mags as well as the SS Colt and I got them for about the same price as the no-name mags you mentioned.
Right now Cabela's has MecGar SS 8-rd mags for $20ea. These are my favorite right now- they work great in all four of my 1911's. I'd buy enough of these to get free shipping and then your set for a while. Good luck.

The key to all recoil operated pistols (well, nearly all guns) is the magazine. A good mag doesn't cost less than $30.

Save them for malfunction drills

I buy several Wilson 47Ds or 500s when I see them on sale. I am up to 20ish now. Nice thing is they fit all my 1911s and work like a charm!!

I had problems with 47ds

The ETM is longer as is the cobra so they actually work with 8 rounds

...and both 47Ds I purchased were problematic till I replaced the guts with 7 round items.

I use the 47 series from Wilson Combat because I shoot .40 in a single stack 1911 and they are the best. 10mm mags I use mecgar and some others. Mecgar are under $20 and really excellent.

In 1911 you can get 9 rounds of .40 which makes me feel better about using such a heavy pistol than I would with 7 rounds. The glass is half empty with 7, but half full with 9 ha!

Eh, no. Buy quality mags. I like shooting star and metalform mags. Both run very well for me in my rock and my colt. Cheap mags sometimes might work. Sometimes not. And the problem is that with cheap mags you don't know really know how well the gun runs. Most every 1911 problem is mag related. Buy good mags as eliminate that variable.

Buy wilson combat mags the first time and then you wont be kicking yourself later. trust me from experience

I have a bunch of them from 10 or so years ago. Never had an issue with any of them in my Kimber, Les Baer and friends Springfield Armory Loaded, Mil Spec and another friend's Kimber Super Match.

I also have two Kimber and one Les Baer/MecGar 7 round mags I but Wilson 8 round spring and followers in and they work perfectly as well.

They're Shooting Star mags, cost me about $7.00 each. Del Mar gun show. I'd do it again.
