FYI I have one that was dropped long before I acquired it and 20 something years later, the finish is just fine, except for the marks where it hit whatever it fell on (probably asphalt). I would never consider any type of refinishing no matter who does it. Just my .02Comment

Generally speaking: "you're correct - you generally can't just buy guns out of state and bring them home to California".
In brief, a purchaser is subject to both the laws of his state of residence and also the laws of the state of purchase. Most non-California FFLs do not comply with all the California requirements (e.g. most don't DROS, since DROS is a California-specific requirement). There are some exceptions. If you haven't already found the details in the wiki or other posts, ask away and I'm sure some of the folks here will give you all the depressing details.Regarding the 2nd Amendment:
"...to disarm the people ― that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason ("The Father of the Bill of Rights")
Regarding Life and Death:
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28
The BIG question: "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" Matthew 27:22bComment

I'm just guessing OP has a one of those C&R FFLs. I was going to do the same thing with a Garand but ran into that. Since I didn't want my stuff subject to ATF purview I never went through it.Generally speaking: "you're correct - you generally can't just buy guns out of state and bring them home to California".
