    Quick handgun transportation question

Hey all, been a long time since I have been on here or went shooting for that matter. I ended up picking up a new glock 19 and had a quick question about transporting it. I have searched, but it the answers seem to be so back and forth and I just want to make sure I am understanding correctly.

I have a Mini cooper JCW so I don't have a locking trunk. So, to my understanding, i must have the handgun in a locked container in my so called trunk. My question is would it be ok to hand my glock in a locked pistol case, and then the pistol case in a backpack? And, inside the backpack out of the pistol locked case have my ammo and have loaded magazines? As long as the magazines were outside the locked case, or I have been seeing conflicting posts on if they can be loaded magazines inside the same locked pistol case, but just not inserted into the gun at the time. I could also put a lock on the backpack as well if need be to have a locked case inside a locked backpack, haha.

Anyways, if someone could clarify this for me it would be most appreciated. It is not for an everyday thing, but really just for going to and from the shooting range and I would rather just have it in a backpack if possible as opposed to carrying the handgun case in and the ammo separately.

    thanks in advance!

thanks, and since it is in a locked container being inside the backpack there shouldn't be any issues if i read that correctly?

and nope, no trunk since its a hatchback from the drivers seat to the back of the car "trunk" area is only a few feet back and pretty accessible unlike a larger suv with no trunk

If it's in a locked container and unloaded no need for a trunk or extra container. The trunk is used if you don't have a lockable container. The problem is how do you get it in and out of the trunk without being in violation of the PC.

To be extra safe(from getting hassled) most people keep the loaded mags and or ammo in a seperate case or location. If your gun is unloaded and kept in a seperate "Locked" container from the mags or ammo it would be difficult for an LEO to mistake you for unlawfully carrying. Picture an LEO reaching into your gun bag and feeling around for the mag, inserting it and then pulling it out of the bag and showing his partner the "loaded" gun. It's not impossible to do unless the mags and ammo are in seperate bags/containers. You don't need to lock up the ammo, just the unloaded gun.

It's your "right" to carry them together, but there may be LEOs that don't agree and give you a hard time for it.

yeah, falls in line with the "you may not be charged or convicted of a crime, but doesn't mean you can't be arrested"

cops don't care if you are charged or convicted; that's the DA's job.
