TRP vs. 97B

I own 2 97B and love it to death. I'm just wondering if the TRP is that much better to warrant close to 1K difference in price. The plus side of it is that I also want another 1911 since I have only 1 so far. But I'd hate the "buyer's remorse" once I shoot it and realize that it's either marginally better than, or worse, not as good as my beloved 97B. So I'm kinda on the fence on this. Regarding high end 1911's, it probably isn't up there with the likes of Nighthawk, Ed Brown, or Wilson Combat. IMO, I don't think it's that much far behind. That's another plus to the gun, and if I were to get it and if I'm happy with it, chances are I won't be tempted by those high end ones anymore. In other words, it may cure my "sickness" for high end 1911's.

So to those who own both, is it worth to get one? For me, it's rather hard to find better guns in term of shooting and affordability once you've shot and owned CZ's.

I'm not sure how much the 97b costs but I got my TRP for $1,394 out the door in January. Great gun but did not cure my temptation to get a "better" 1911 and even though I now have a custom gun, I will never sell it.

1394 is a great price. Currently, it's selling for close to 1700, and that's not including tax and DROS. 97b, on the other hand, goes between 750-850 OTD.

I own a TRP half rail Operator. I was thinking that getting a higher end pistol would be much better than the TRP. So I purchased an Ed Brown Special Forces, thinking it would be so much better. I know the SF is not considered to be high end for some but it was for me. The SF was very nice in fit finish and function. The slide to frame fit was awesome.

With all that said, I sold the Brown and still have the TRP. The TRP is a tank and almost on par with the SF. The Brown was only better than the TRP in the way the slide and frame slid against each other.

I have never fired a 97B but I own two CZ's. A heavily modified SP-01 and a Czechmate. If the 97B is as nice as my two CZ's, you have a great gun/guns. If you buy a TRP you will not regret it. You will give up two rounds unless you use the extended ten round 1911 mags

You can find 97's for $750-800, so a sizable difference, but it good to know that the TRP didn't cure your "better" 1911 bug. There's a good chance the next pistol I pick up will be the 97b, but that's mostly because I like my SP-01 tac so much. Thanks for the input

Can you PM me where did you get the TRP for $1400? Is it the stainless one?

Oooh, toughie. I owned both before. Very different guns.

As far as mechanical accuracy, I think both are pretty equal. I mean, not too many people can outshoot a gun anyways.

It will boil down to preference at the end of the day. One is SA/DA that can be converted to SAO and one is SAO. The CZ 97B has wider grips but has more capacity. For about half the price of a TRP, you can turn one of your CZ 97B's into an even more fantastic gun.

What do you like about 1911's? What is your other one?

Getting a TRP did not cure my sickness to get a higher end 1911, or should I say more expensive 1911... Such a 1911, imo, does not offer that much more than a TRP does in terms of being a gun. It is more expensive because of how it is made - most are made by hand and by master gunsmiths - so kind of like leather goods or other material things. A TRP can hold its own against a Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Baer or a Wilson or many other 1911's. It is really nice.

At the end of the day, a CZ 97B will never be a 1911, and vice versa. Try to determine what you want from a TRP and decide if you really want it.

FWIW, my preference is a 1911 for .45 ACP and a CZ for 9mm. Hence, I got rid of my CZ 97B. Why I got rid of my TRP? I prefer my Nighthawk over it. See my use of the word "preference" here?

I got my TRP off of Gun Broker from an FFL in AZ for $1,199 and with tax, transfer and DROS it came out to $1,394. It is still on the roster so it can be shipped into the state and is cheaper to do so if you can find an FFL with a reasonable transfer fee. Mine only charged $25 for the transfer and $25 for the DROS. The TRP half rail however does go for anywhere between $1,500 & $1,700 and is off roster so it would have to be purchased ppt.

You can get a TRP from Buds for less than $1k shipped before taxes/transfer/DROS if you are patient. Just wait for their sales.

When my wife started to shoot USPSA, she started with a CZ SP01 and loved the gun. After some time, she started to explore 1911s, and ultimately decided to stop shooting the CZ altogether after getting a 9mm 1911. Everyone is different, but in order to learn to properly shoot and maintain that ability, so wanted to stick with the 1911 platform even though the CZ felt more comfortable for her smaller hands.

I wouldn't compare them directly since they are different platform. This one is not a question of "either/or," but the question of "both."

If you cannot have both, then it comes down to what platform you prefer, not to which one is better.

You mentioned that you have a 1911. What make and model 1911 do you have? Do you shoot better with your CZ's or your 1911?

Regarding your question, yes the TRP is definitely worth it. Most people will say that the front strap checkering is too aggressive but it's a non-issue because you get used to after a couple range trips.

Two different animals ....

I had both but I ended up selling the 97B to fund a Full Rail TRP. The SA TRP is really hard to beat for the price. Most people rave about it with the only gripe being the LPI is too aggressive. So buy a TRP already!!!!
