Question about .22LR shotshell

I see that CCI makes 31 grain and 52 grain shotshell in .22LR.

Both carry advisories saying "Use only in firearms having standard ANSI sporting barrel/chamber dimensions. Note: Not intended to cycle in semi-automatic firearms."

Does this mean that I cannot use either of these in my Buck Mark pistol? Or does it merely mean that they aren't powerful enough to cycle but still safe to use?

They aren't powerful enough to cycle. They should be fine for use. They are great for snakes!

I thought it might be amusing to try breaking some casual short-range clays with these...

Also, does the "31gr" and "52gr" refer to the pellet load or the powder load?

Pellet load.

It is hard to break clays with a handgun but, it is possible. I've done it with a couple NFA AOWs. It just doesn't feel normal to me. It is also not easy to break clays with a .22lr shotshell but, I've done it (with limited success) on a skeet range and at Angeles (with the thrower only a few feet in front of me) with my .22lr Rem 121 Routledge which is a smoothbore designed for shotshells only.

Effective range is probably 10 feet or so. Shoot a few into cardboard and see how they spread when shot from your barrel.

Cycled my Ruger Mk II just fine. Pretty wide pattern at even 10 ft...

pellet load. 52gr of powder would be enough to fill two 5.56 cartridges, would blow your .22 pistol to bits

Ya pellet spread is about a foot out of my h&r sportsman 999 at 10'

We tried shooting dove with an old remington model 6 rolling block 35 years ago and hit nothing using birdshot 22 lr, but had a great time. When the limit was 10 morning and 15 whitewing. No posession limit. We had limited except for couple birds.
