Anyone use EFK Fire Dragon conversion barrels?

I have an FN Hi-Power in .40 S&W. Even though I have about 5,000 rounds, .40 S&W is not my favorite caliber.

I've just acquired a lot of 9mm magazines for Hi-Power pistols for I figured I'd get a 9mm conversion barrel.

Has anyone here used EFK Fire Dragon barrels?

    Thanks in your opinions.

My wife has an EFK in her XD. It's a nice piece, snug chamber, really has to be fed spec ammo. Have had factory reload (miwall) issues, but I have also had the occasional odd round of WWB that failed because of out of spec too. With top quality ammo (winchester ranger) no problemo. It's very accurate, again, probably because of the tight tolerance. I recommend them with the provisio about ammo preference - only the best for defense.
The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.

I have a Fire Dragon conversion barrell for my XD40 Service, mainly to defray the cost of training ammo. I calculated that it would pay for itself after 2000 rounds of 9mm, I believe, and now I save money by buying lots more 9mm than 40 S&W. With current ammo prices, a conversion barrel pay for itself even sooner.

The recoil difference of 9mm vs. .40SW to me is just a bit less snappiness. I bought some stiffer Wolf springs from pistolgear dot com to see if it would soften the recoil and maybe speed up followup shots. However, I haven't had the time or money recently to do a thorough test to make sure it would still cycle my HD rounds, so I put the stock springs back for now. I look forward to experimenting with the springs. That's also something you could try.

Another thing you might want to try, if it's the feeling of the recoil that bothers you, is changing the grip to something rubber that fills your hand more. Even just a Hogue HandAll might make an appreciable difference. Also, if you shoot 155 gr, maybe try 180 grain? It's a bit counterintuitive, but I think the heavier (and therefore slower) loads feel less snappy, kinda like 45acp vs 9mm.

You can also get a .22LR conversion kit for your Hi-Power and see dramatic differences in feel as well as cost...once you shoot enough .22LR to pay for it.

        Thanks for the replies.

The snap of the .40 doesn't bother me. It's costing too much money for the amount I shoot and I'd rather have the Hi-Power in a 9mm.

          My H&K USP45FS

has an EFK extended barrel so I can use lead to practice; but I liked it so much I tried all my other ammo in it. Now, the factory barrel is locked in the gun safe, and the EFK barrel stays in the slide. I also had my gunsmith machine a groove on the barrel to fit the 'O' ring from the Expert and had the match trigger installed at H&K; I really like it now!

Don't use these barrels with silencers.

Here's what people on Silencer Talk have said about EFK barrels:

"EFK took 4 months to send me a barrel and lied to me about it. I would try Storm Lake."

"I had a similar situation to Conqueror. I eventually just canceled my EFK order after being told too many different things at different times. I then ordered from Storm Lake and it's fit and finish is perfect. It arrived sooner than I expected, too. More info on my suppressed Springfield XD .45 Service with Storm Lake Barrel found HERE and HERE."

"The end cap of my evo-40 "came off", thanks to a EFK firedragon barrel."

They are crap and won't stand by their product. I purchased one about a year ago from the NoRecoil guy at the Cow Palace Gun Show for my USP Tactical, it was loose with about 0.03 inches of play for and aft in the breach and damage to the rifling in the barrel. I contacted them about it and they (a guy named Frank Berto) told me to send it in and they would replace it. After a couple of months and a couple of phone calls to them they finally sent my original barrel back to me with a target they supposedly shot at 20 yards saying that the barrel was fine. The barrel of course is NOT fine, the looseness causes a large loss of accuracy and I have concerns about the safety with the headspace being off. They will NOT stand by there product (any company that states in their warranty that they will not give a cash reimbursement should be suspect). My subsequent attempts to ratify the situation have also been failures. So in the end, I'm out $200 and still can not shoot my USP in this state. There is no good reason to go with them when there are so many other reputable companies out there.

Hmm, maybe Barsto would be a better alternative.

That is the route I would go. I hate to at this point be sounding like a little *****, but I fear that my last recourse is to keep others from making the same mistake I did and buying from these guys. Really, how hard is it to stand by your product?
