    a). 9mm
    b). All metal (No Polymer)
    c). 4" to 5" barrel
d). Single stack ammo (slim grip profile)
    e). up to $1000 budget
f). Prefer stainless steel or chrome finish, if possible
g). Cali-Legal & readily obtainable (short wait OK)

Your recommendations are very welcome Thanks in advance.

      Kahr T9

The Kahr T9 fits your profile, with a 4 inch barrel, single stack magazine and stainless steel construction:

I'd almost say sig 225 p6, except I think the barrel is just under 4 inches.

You'd be well under budget though.

And that Kahr looks just like the 225

I vote to spend a couple of years to locate a P220 in 9mm.

          Otherwise...

I'm also gonna add my vote tot he 1911 chambered in 9mm. Those are the only handguns that I could come up with, on my own, that meet all of the qualifications you listed.

Single stack, full size barrel, 9mm, up to $1K, you are asking Browning Hi Power. I don't know if there is any place selling Hi Power these day, you will have to test your luck. Go around the gun shop, drop a card and see if any one turn up so they can call you.

                I will say it.
Imagine how much monet he'd have for extras He could have a gunsmith go through it and replace worn parts, refinish it, put some nice sights. Possibilities are nearly endless when you start so low. Plus parts are CHEAP!

Beretta is also an option. Or Taurus.

I have a Springer 9mm 1911 'Loaded' and it runs like a top. Lotsa fun to shoot, even if it throws brass in my face

Unfortunately, his single-stack mag requirement kicks the CZ out. But I would personally push to drop the single-stack requirement and go CZ.

You could always go with a Beretta 92 Compact Type M. 8 round single stack in a compact beretta. You'll have to go face to face as they are not on the list in California. Incidentally, I bought mine from a guy that lives in California and I live in Nevada.

How about a 1911 in 9mm. That would be my choice with your requirements.

Just remove the single stack... And you will Unleash the CZ in me...

                          So then i would tell you to get a CZSP01, a CZ75B/SA

                          or Even a

CZ75 TS in 9mm with that nice 5.3 barrel hmmm.. I want.

Hows the availability of 9mm 1911's down south? They've been on order for a long time at shops up North :/

Yeah 9mm 1911s are hard to come by here in SoCal as well

Keep the suggestions coming please. I would like to stay with the single stack ammo requirement since my wife will use it too. Also, I would like to add that the firearm should easily be attainable brand new in SoCal.

                              a). 9mm
                              b). All metal (No Polymer)
                              c). 4" to 5" barrel
d). Single stack ammo (slim grip profile)
                              e). up to $1000 budget
f). Prefer stainless steel or chrome finish, if possible
g). Cali-Legal & readily obtainable (short wait OK)

                              Here they are so far:
                              - Kahr T9, K9, MK9 (delete - no 4" or 5" barrel)
                              - SA 1911
                              - Kimber 1911
