329PD first shots

I shot my new Smith & Wesson wheel gun for the first time last night, and as expected its a beast. 44MAG out of a 26.5oz gun is gnarly. I shot 3 different loads, magtech cowboy .44SPL, magtech 240gr FMJ-FN, and Winchester platinum tip 250gr HP.

The .44SPL felt similar to a mid-sized .40sw not bad to shoot at all. The magtech magnum was not fun, the recoil I've ever felt... until I shot the platinum tip, I would describe it as slapping oncoming traffic. Everything was shot with the wood grips on the gun do to lack of screwdriver.

I wanted the gun as a light weight woods carry which its perfect for, but I don't see it becoming something I shoot on the regular.

I considered one when it first came out. I posed the question about recoil on a S&W forum. One guy answered saying he had one and a 500 S&W. The 329 kicked worse according to him..

I draw the line at my .454 Super Alaskan. That 329 has to qualify as cruel and unusual punishment with full house loads. You need to give it a feminine name. I named mine Miss Marlene, after the great screen legend, Marlene Dietrich, who, like the Alaskan, would mix pain with pleasure.

Try these Pachmayr grips. They wrap around the back with just enough soft rubber to alleviate any pressure points. I have them on my 329 PD and it's a big difference.

I still need to try it with the rubber grips that came with it. I've read that the houge x frame decelerator grips will fit also.

I used to think the 329PD was brutal- then I bought a .500 John Ross- 3lbs, 5" no comp.

To this day it's the hardest kicking thing I've shot from a hand- including AOW 12 gauge shotguns I've tried.

The 340sc (J-frame) IMO is worse than the 329 if you fire 180gr loads- but then who does that

Ive heard people say shooting a 329pd is like hitting your hand with a sledgehammer. Sounds like its painfully fun.
