Front Sight Dovetail

Anyone had a front sight dovetail milled recently? I recently bought a used RIA Officer that I want to have milled and am comparing prices.. Thanks for your opinions..

When it comes to milling I wouldn't get too hung up on price, I'd go with who does the best job. Just my opinion.

It might work better to sell it and buy a 1911 that already has the configuration you want.

With gun smithing it's a time thing, I'm guessing $80-$100 per hour just like your auto mechanic, electrician, plumber, etc.

Dave's Metal Works, or Randall (AR15barrels) can do it. Randall can do it while you wait.

I highly recommend Novaksights.....turnaround in less than 2 weeks on my Colt. Work was great and even though i sent just the slide it was dead on.

Local joints wanted over $200 to mill the front and rear for novak cuts.......not even counting install or sights. AND their waiting list would put me at 2 months + out.

Novak milled my front and rear, purchased front and rear white dots and install and including shipping was $200.

Dave's Metal works does checkering- or he has a guy who does it there, and does a great job.

I don't know if Randall does it, I've never asked. Checkering is an art, it helps to have one guy who specializes in it do the work.
