Aluminum cased ammo

Just wanted to get some thoughts on the whole aluminum cased ammo debate. Saw something today that said the projectiles are seated way too far down inside the casing. Does anybody run aluminum cased in their XD? Any problems with it?

I have used aluminum cased ammo in 45acp and 9mm and have had no problems.

The only issue I've ever had with aluminum cased ammo is that my range won't let me use it there, the ammo itself has never been an issue.

The federal aluminum cased ammo I have been using in my flocks has worked flawlessly. And it cost only $10 per box of 9mm and $15 per box of .40 AND .45. Love it for range time

Aluminum casing in an XD or any modern handgun is not a problem. The steel slide should take the aluminum just fine. Bullet and primer would be pretty much the same as a brass case.

The reason for consideration is of aluminum/steel casing:
You can not reload them.
Ranges may not allow them, because they cannot reload them.

Some ammo sellers will gave a credit for brass return (they will not take aluminum nor steel casing).

I have been buying AL cased fed at walmart, it is cheap. I have never had a stoppage from it, but I think it's not the most accurate stuff ever (the 45 seems more accurate than the 9mm, tho). But it could be in my head.

Unless you shoot a ton of ammo, to the point where the savings from buying aluminum or steel cased ammo would make a difference, I recommend sticking with brass. There's an endless debate, just as hot and controversial as the caliber debate, whether or not aluminum/steel case ammo is bad for your gun. There is no debate whether or not brass ammo is bad for your gun. I've used aluminum cased ammo before and never had a problem, but these days I just stick to brass for peace of mind.

Aluminum cases have been around for decades. They are far softer than any steel cases. The only problem with them is that they are not easily reloadable. They used to be several dollars cheaper than brass-cased ammo. I haven't seen any lately, so I don't know what the price-point is today. If you can find it for a good price, buy it.

Never had a problem. People who usually have problems with this ammo are non-glock owners.

Shoot it and enjoy your savings. It is a softer alloy than brass so you might run into the extractor marring up the case rim and failing to extract, but hey it's just practice ammo.

I have shot almost 4,000 rounds of Federal aluminum cased 9mm thru my HK VP9 and 1000 rnds thru my P226mk25 without a single stoppage.
