    Colt Python

I am interested in buying a Python, and because I am land locked here in California I can only buy what is on the List. There are several Python Elite's on the gun websites that I have been looking at. The prices are absurd. There are few guns that have been fired that look pretty good. My question is this, how many rounds can a Python handle before it is considered spent? I know there are variables to this question, but in general what is amount? The sellers make a big deal about never been verses fired only a few times.

I don't know the specific answer but I would imagine it would be thousands and thousands of rounds before a barrel is considered "spent".

You are not bound to the roster! Find yourself an FFL willing to do a perfectly legal SAE and buy whatever Python that suits your fancy.

A bit of home work might also be helpful...check How to check out a revolver.

We SAE Python and other expensive revolvers almost daily.

If local to us just find the gun you want online and let us handle the rest for you.

You should see the prices here for used ones. Some of them check in at $4k

              Colt Python

My understanding is that the SAE transfers were on longer legal after 1-1-15.

SAE on revolvers is fine, you're thinking SEE on autoloaders.

Elite prices have gone absolutely crazy as of late. Even for a "shooter" Python (obvious wear issues, possible timing, condition etc.) folks are asking > $2k. They are absolutely beautiful/amazing (once you lock that hammer back you'll know exactly what I mean) pieces of craftsmanship.

I once had the pleasure of shooting ivanimal's Python Elite at USI in Concord. It made my regular Python seem like a clunker.

I have 10k plus rounds over the past 30 years out of my dad's Python, and it still shoots great. I wold not hesitate in purchasing a "high mileage" Python.

Get with Baboosh. He will help you out.

That's a today price. There are guys out there that have many, many hundreds each of used/new/NIB Colt Pythons-they release them slowly back into the retail market-Their business model is patterned after the De Beers diamond fortunes, release them slowly, don't flood the market to keep the price hyper inflated. They chose the Colt Python with it's excellent production record and since discontinued making it a true limited addition to replace De Beers' diamond stranglehold on the world. You buy in at X dollars today, tomorrow it's worth x+1 until the economic glass ceiling finally shatters.

Shop around and take up Baboosh's offer.
Free states offer better prices and it may offer better choices even with the additional SAE expense. Try colt forum dot com classifieds. Also Python forum. Many high integrity sellers there. Lumberjack, keystone arms, etc.
                          Good luck!

I purchased a set of NOS Python Gen lll stocks from Keystone Arms. Paid premium and received premium+. I would definitely again buy from Marc.

Just remember SAE is only good if the overall length is 7 inches...so you'll need to be after a python with a 3 " barrel or more
