What is Micro stamping and whats its purpose? How is this good or bad?
I am not moved by my emotions or by what seems popular. I will do what is right.

Microstamping is a ballistics identification technology. Microscopic markings are engraved onto the tip of the firing pin and onto the breech face of a firearm with a laser. When the gun is fired, these etchings are transferred to the primer by the firing pin and to the cartridge case head by the breech face, using the pressure created when a round is fired. After being fired, if the cases are recovered by police, the microscopic markings imprinted on the cartridges can then be examined by forensic ballistics experts to help trace the firearm to the last registered owner. A California law requiring the use of microstamping technology in all new semiautomatic firearms sold in the state has attracted controversy. Bad really Bad. Its a dumb idea.

Even if they could make a version that would work, you the owner would be required to make sure to replace a worn firing pin and would more than likely be forced to pay a fee to cover the paperwork annually showing you care for the children.
Shooting at a public range would leave your brass laying around to be picked up and dropped at a crime scene.

Crooks would just file the marking off the firing pin.

Nice overview, but the CA law requires the CASE to be marked in two places.
The firing pin cannot be used, it would only mark the primer.
The breech face / case head cannot be used due to the head stamp brand markings put on all ammo by the maker.

It is little more than a (terrible, unworkable) idea, but CA has jumped on it as a way to eliminate semi-auto handguns from the CA market.
