    Newbie Questions

    1) I'm anal about cleaning my gun... I shot 200 rounds out of my Glock 19 and of course I had to clean it. I'm using Hoppe's 9 for solvent and oil. Do I need to worry about this solvent and the Polymer?

    2) In the midst of shooting the 200 rounds, I had 1 round that FTF... I tried the round in multiple magazines, and it just won't load. While having the gun field stripped, I tried the round in the barrel, it fit. After cleaning and oiling, I tried the round again, still fails to feed. If I attempt to continue to load, I can "baby" the load into chamber, and battery. Not sure if I want to fire this load? How does one dispose of a live round?

Thank you all in advance for the help!

1.) Regarding the cleaner, you shouldn't have any issues.
I suggest getting Breakthrough clean, which does wonders. Same with M-Pro 7. Both are 100% odorless and does not stain. IMO, they clean much more efficiently than Hoppe's. Some people like the smell of Hoppe's, I certainly don't.

2.) I wouldn't worry too much about the failed to feed issue since it happened only with that round. Seems like that round was not seated completely during the loading process. Now if it is consistently occurring. Calgunners will be glad to help you. You can always give a live round to a range officer.

From my experience, Glocks are VERY reliable. However, people do get lemons, but I don't think your is. I know friends that have shot over 5k rounds on their Glocks without cleaning and they still shoot fine. It's designed that way.

nothing will hurt a Glock including an atomic explosion.
      ;-)
      that's just a joke.

as for hops number 9 I do believe you're going to be safe with that on all modern polymer guns.

I also clean my guns after every shooting which is usually a few hundred rounds.

if its only seems to be one single round that is giving you problems I would just toss it.
it is probably out of specifications of its intended dimensions.

and I usually offer any rounds that are damaged beyond what I consider safe to shoot to someone working at the range.
sometimes they have a bucket of these turned in rejects, where they eventually take it apart and reuse their components.

Hoppes has a very aromatic smell. For me it evokes memories of my grandpas hunting cabin. It works well and you will have no issue with it.

CLP will take care of that Glock, or any other Polymer gun without issues. It's all I use any more.

I am guessing you bought "reloads" but factory ammo is not perfect either.

The easiest way is leave it with the rangemaster when you shoot at a range. You can drop it off at the police station. As a reloader, my bad rounds I take apart safely.

1 round that won't chamber doesn't deserve more that 1 second try. Throw it away.

                        This ^^^

I would have immediately tossed it and only gave the issue a second thought if it happened a second time.

I have owned a first gen G17 since 1990. I used to shoot it some casual matches. In the time I've owned it I have put several thousand rounds through it and she still shoots great.

I'm also anal about cleaning after every range session using Hoppe's exclusively.

BTW "I love the smell of Hoppe's in the Morning."

Nope, this was Remington 147gr... L9MM9 UMC ...The only round out of 200... I'll give it to the RM next time at the range. I just wanted to know how to safely get rid of a live round. The RM seems like a safe way to do that.

Thanks again to everyone for the great info!
