I have a small issue I hope someone can help me resolve. So I just installed a new mainspring housing with a magwell on my Kimber. After the install I did a safety check and everything operates as it should, but I noticed when inserting a mag (47d) the mag slides in smoothly up until the mag release area and from there it requires additional pressure to fully insert the mag. If I press the mag release button and insert the mag it slides in smoothly. Is this normal? If not, what are some potential fixes? Thanks ahead of time.

1911 question

I don't know how changing the mainspring would interfere with the magazine catch. Were you using 47D before?
I encountered the same resistance with one 1911 and pushing a little harder on the mag got it to sit properly. If it is a new mag, then I think nothing is wrong. If it is the same mag you've been using and now it is hard to load, then I have no idea. -
Take it out and stone a small angle onto the mag-catch where it contacts the magazine on the way into the pistol. Look at a close up pic from Brownells or something of a high quality aftermarket replacement like an Ed Briwn, etc and emulate it. You can also buy a reduced power mag catch spring from Wolff.Last edited by PseudoTsuga; 05-17-2015, 3:41 PM."Show me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy."

Little too advanced for me, I dont have the tools or the finesse to do something like that lolTake it out and stone a small angle onto the mag-catch where it contacts the magazine on the way into the pistol. All you need is a small screwdriver, and a small file or piece of sandpaper. Wish I could do it for you! It would take me five minutes."Show me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy."

That angle opposite the button is what you're trying to emulate."Show me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy."

That's normal, you're feeling the magazine release engage the magazine.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

this was the answer I was hoping to get. I've only run about 50 rounds since the new mags. So hopefully once I get a few hundred it'll loosen up a bit.Comment

What you described is the norm on most non-custom, run of the mill 1911s. Nothing to fix nor fret about.Comment

The only way its going to "loosen" is if you insert the mag enough times to wear down the angle of the mag catch. If the magazine you're using is black, you'll soon notice the silver vertical line where the catch is making contact with the mag. Shooting wont smooth out the catch, inserting a mag repeatedly will.Comment

Also possible the heel of your hand is being stopped short by hitting well funnel and keeping the heel of your hand from applying as much pressure to the mag base when inserting.
Either keep shooting it as is until it smooths out or bevel the catch.Comment
