    Marking up Off-Roster Handguns?

    Hello,

I'm pretty new to Calguns and newish to guns in general. However, I've been in the market for a 9mm and I noticed...

Some people (not all, but some) are charging ridiculous prices for a gun simply because its "off roster." It left kind of a sour taste in my mouth. I understand supply and demand, but when you've got people charging almost $400-$500 what a gun retails for, it seems kind of excessive.

Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this situation, kind of like the people that will buy .22 for $.7 then turn around and try and sell it for $.14.

On a side note, Beretta 92FS or Browning Hi-Power? (probably going to buy both, definitely the hi-power first but just wanted to get people's temp on this debate too while I'm at it!)

I liked the CZ a lot but the slide was a little small and hard for me to grip.

    Thanks for reading!

EDIT: thank you everyone for the replies! I got some new perspective into the whole situation. I think my only options are to 1. Have children who become police officers and can buy nice guns that I can borrow, or 2. Convince my lady to move to freedom.

I think I've found a project for this summer. Going to figure out how to get this roster repealed... It has to be unconstitutional or something!

Also I've decided to get the Hi-Power. I fell in love with it but I will most likely end up buying both although I will give the cz-75B a try!

I assuming you tried a p01. Try a CZ 75b. That has a full size slide.
You can also get 22l conversion for it.

If you still have problems with the slide watch this. You have to push with grip hand and pull with slide hand.

Mark up is just what people think they can get for a gun that's not readily available in CA...some may pay top dollar.

Beretta 92FS vs Browning High Power- have you shot them both? Which do you shoot better with? Which one feels better in your hands?
For me the Browning fits better, Beretta is big. Good luck! Buy both...

Feel free to sell something that is no longer available for sale at or below cost.

Someone shouldn't have to sell you something cheaper than what they paid because you were late to the game.

The hi power is a nicer gun but I bet the trigger on a 92fs is nicer and parts are more readily available

CALGUNS members are the cheapest and the greediest people on the planet. You all squeeze a penny till it squeals.

If you want a gun bad enough you will pay the market rate (even if it is $400-500 over free state price). If you don't want it that bad, move on.
Maybe you will find one later at a better price. Maybe you won't. Either way stop crying about it. I decide how badly I want something and how much I'll pay. If I find it for that great. If not great.

WHY do people always think we need them to start yet another thread telling us how cheap they are?
            Only slaves don't need guns

Guns that are no longer on the roster have nothing in common with ammo that is still legal to buy and sell in CA. Off roster guns are not coming back anytime soon and probably not in many here's lifetime. If there is something I want that is not on the roster I am willing to pay a premium and do not see it as gouging. First in with no one is forcing you to buy

The CZ slide may be something you need to become used to, but the trade off is a terrific low bore axis.

I have no difficulty with mine. Just took a smidge of practice. Great guns

I've seen a lot of post in regards to high, excessive prices on common firearms outside of California. It has only encouraged me to become more involved towards relinquishing this state of the confounded list of safe firearms for sale.

You shouldn't be worrying too much about not getting your "off-roster" firearm. Be prepared for the next ammo panic then your mouth will definitely be sour.

Oh thank goodness for this post!!! I thought for sure a week was about to pass without another one of these, and then I'd have to pinch myself to see if I was still alive.

                          Marking up Off-Roster Handguns?

It depends. They also paid premium for their off roster handguns when the SSE was legal. So they just wanted to recover for what they spent.

I'd pick the Browning. But don't forget to check out the CZ SP-01.

It's frustrating but can't blame them, blame the roster and human nature.

I had a 92fs but it was a bit large. Beautiful gun though.
Always wanted to try a Browning and a CZ so I'd go that route depending on fit.

The price is the price; if your not willing to pay the price move on.... If I wanted to sell a GEN4 Glock 21C at $900 when it is available in Texas for $450 that is what I want to sell it for.

If you dont want to pay my local (CA) price you can buy it in Texas or move on.

You are not obligated to buy just as they are not obligated to sell.

pay the price or move on.
