Never heard of factory loads going Ka-Boom with this gun, but have heard it happened on re-loads. Fun gun, ammo about same as .45ACP. Its got a nice fireball when shot. Very light recoil, but for some reason I'm not accurate with it.

Had to adjust sights from factory when i shot 40gr bluetip. Factory zero is with 27gr...i think

i like shooting it, but freestate mags would be sweet

Not worth it if its your 1st gun or new to shooting

If you want it buy it. It's your money, your hobby.

My bud has one, cool to shoot. Ammo a lil pricey, completely plastic down to the mags. And pricey for plastic gun. IMHO I can spend $1200 on a 1911.

But again your money. Your hobby.

          Ammo is expensive.
          Tricky to load for.

I've never heard about it being low-quality, though I don't own one so take that for what it's worth. It does seem kind of pointless without AP ammo and full capacity magazines though, since those are it's two biggest claims to fame. It's cool, sure, but it's also kinda not cool in the same conflicted way that semi-auto Mac-10/11s and other neutered guns are. It's like a base-model 6cyl "muscle" car. Yeah, it looks the part, and if it's all you can afford then you don't have much choice, but it lacks the main thing that made muscle cars what they are.

I just don't see the appeal as a California-legal paper puncher. If you were some kind of bodyguard or soldier going up against armored opponents often enough to heavily bias/compromise you handgun towards that role, then sure, but then you probably wouldn't be asking Calguns for advice.

If you want it "just because" then that's kind of hard to argue with. I get that, but don't think it's going to be anything more than a very expensive toy. There's nothing wrong with range toys, just be aware before you go spending all that money.

The FN 5 7 that kaboomed was attributed to an out-of-battery firing, supposedly. There were several unscientific testings done by FN 5 7 owners and they were able to fire the pistol while out of battery.

A few years back I assumed reloading the 5.7x28 was going to provide an economical way to shoot reloads. I've always wanted an AR57 upper as I have the magazines and a dedicated lower for it. Then I read and heard that reloading the 5.7 leaves no room for error due to high working pressures, totally dissuading me from spending the money on the upper. Now it's not a must have item for me anymore. Maybe someday when the zombie apocalypse gets heated up again.

And a brain hit doesn't require a lot of power in order to work, either. A 22lr autorifle should do a fine job, actually, and you're a lot more likely to have enough ammo for it, and get the needed hits, too. With 60 gr subsonic Aquila ammo,, the .22lr also a lot quieter than any high speed load when both are suppressed. Calliing in more enemies with your muzzledblasts is a pretty stupid thing to do.

I owned one but was only fun to shoot with the 27gr ammo which is too expensive when using the cheaper American eagle would have to re adjust sites and still felt like it was all over the place made it kind of pointless

Are these even a regular production item?

I can't remember the last time that I saw one for sale at any of the big online gunstores...

If it was a subcompact I'd be more interested. Don't get the point full size.

They shoot fine, and are accurate high quality pistols.

Ammo isn't THAT expensive. Come on- $19-25 a box? That's about the same as .40-.45.

I have heard lots of hoopla regarding the difficulty of reloading for it. Bah Humbug.

My uncle has reloaded HUNDREDS of rounds on his single stage press with ZERO issues (PS90, which is more sensitive than the pistol).
What's the secret? Go slow, and don't chase maximum. You're just paper punching right? Use a mild to average load which cycles the weapon well, and stick to it.

If you like it, get it. It's quite accurate once you practice with it. Recoil IMO is about on par with 9mm using lighter bullets.

If you plan on using it for defense, get some SS198 bullets.

I am going with a 22TMC conversion when they are available. Just an option for you for something .22 at 40 grain flying about 2k fps out of a handgun.

Dealing with the chunky FN57 grip is not worth it without normal capacity magazine. Yea, there are grips more uncomfortable than a Glock.
Your choice of 1911 or Glock conversion. More than likely, I am going with the Glock conversion.
TCM conversion will be 1/2 cost of the FN, save money for the ammo.

Really ... Aguila Subsonic 22lr ??? -- They recently changed the powder and they are a lot louder now.

When's the last time you used Aguila Subsonic...?
