    super grips

    anyone know what type of factory grips came on 1949 vintage 1911 38 super?
    any idea as to where a set might be found? thanks...Bill

      Haven't tried anywhere yet.
      trying to find out if the original grips were wood or plastic also called...coltwood?
      rubber pachmeyers on it now...ugly!!

          Best answer. One thing about those old brown plastic grips. I took a pair off a old Colt and several years later I went to put them back on and they had apparently shrunk. My google fu revealed that it does happen. Good luck, BTW a '49 production Super is likely pretty rare.

              try these guys. They make reproduction grips from the original Colt molds.

                  My Clawson book refers to Coltwood for Post War guns in .38 Super. I also believe they may have the wide ring where the grip screws interface with the grip. His book also showed Coltwood grips with the rampant colt emblem on them. Those from 1947-1970.
                  Ebay should easily find you some.
