    Buying a 1911 display model

Just purchased my first 1911 today. A new Sig 1911R Nitron from a LGS. I thought this day would never come as I'm really frugal with my pocket book.

My LGS happened to only have 2 left, the one in the back had a what I thought to be a blemish on the front site and another which was the display model. So I opted for the display model.

But after leaving the store, I couldn't help but worry that the display model had been up there for a long time and had been dry fired and had the slide dropped on an empty chamber repeatedly.

Am I being paranoid or should I be concerned?

Would love to hear the opinion of a gun store employee as they know better than anyone how customers handle these guns.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Paranoid definitely.. both of my Glock have been display models and they've functioned flawlessly granted they are Glocks but they came just as clean and new as the models sitting in the back.

I wouldn't worry about it. Floor model or not glock or not it should still function and be under warranty if anything really happens. I would just leave out telling the manufacturer it was a floor model... My .02
And being a glock has nothing to do with what the op was stating....

Did they let you rack it? Dry fire? Drop the slide on a empty chamber?

I locked the slide to the rear, eased the slide forward and dry fired it. They didn't seem to care.

Too late now, lol, but those are non-issues for the 1911.

Generally 1911's just a no on slamming home on empty. Shoot enough, it will eventually happen a few times at the range.

Congrats, just take it out and enjoy...won't be your last 1911.

No need to worry, the only worry should be don't pita idiot scratch on your pistol. Look on YouTube it is super easy to avoid. Post some pics when you get a chance congrats.

No need to worry, firearms (1911) can handle much worse punishment than a few racking and dry firing.

I would worry more about Sig 1911s rather than it being a floor model. That particular nitron model has been known to have reliability issues; it tends to run when it feels like it lol.

You're being dramatic. If it fires when you pull the trigger, it's doing it's job. Go out and shoot the darn thing

Just curious...did you receive a discount because it was a display model?

If you think it has been shown to excess or abused (as a display model), send it to Sig and let them give it a once over (should cost you nothing).

FWIW, I have a newer Sig 1911 Stainless and IMO there isn't a better engineered 1911 out there in the sub $1,500 category.

Its a Sig , its probably already broken from all the slide releasing and dry firing. Start calling Sig Customer service to get your warranty work in order

1911 is a mil-spec design. Gun shop handling ain't gonna hurt it.
