1911 info

I shot a Kimber 1911 last week out at Circle S and liked it. How many different companies make the 1911 and is one better than the other ?

What's the price range for a 1911 ? I think the owner said he paid 1100.00 for his but I could be wrong.

Anything else you can add about the 1911 would be great.

Well, that is a big question.
If you have tried Kimber and liked it, I would suggest that you stay with Kimber. Depending on your budget, you could get a brand new 1911 (.45?) anywhere from $500 ~ $2000 and more.
The lower end manufacturer is Rock Island Arms.
If you could, try Springfield and Smith & Wession 1911s, see how you like those.

Because you get what you pay for. The more expensive, the more hand fitting it has and the more accurate the gun (usually.)

The range of price covers from a production line gun made overseas with cast parts to a hand fit gun made here in the US with forged and barstock parts.

Kimber is a nice mid range gun. It has some mim parts, but there's nothing wrong with that. I love my kimbers, I have 3. The price spread has to do with fit and finish, and work that can be done at the factory, i.e., throating your barrel, installing and fitting a beaver tail etc.

Find a range that has several 1911 that you can rent and try them out. I personally like Kimber.
