Tac Lights, do they scratch the rails? HELP...

I have a Sig P220 and thinking about getting the INsight M3X tactical light.
I was wondering if they scratch the rails on the frame from putting it on and off?


Does anyone have any experience with this?
(Especially with the Sig rail)

Yes, it will....
My Streamlight has left marks on the rail of my Sig220. It is metal to metal contact.

...and IIRC the rails on the Sig are *not* Picatinny spec...they're (grrrr) proprietary.

Actually my P220 has the combat black frame with true Picatinny rails.
(notice the edges of the rail is not rounded like the regular P220)

I was thinking about getting the Insight M2 UTL, but it's a little more expensive then the M3X. Maybe i'll look into that option in stead.

the m2 is crud factory! i am not very impressed!

i would stick with a metal LED like the TLR1 or if you want, the x200/x300

LOL I was going to put an advisory against the USP and 1st gen Walther P99s. In their infinite wisdom, they decided to use proprietary rails.

I use a Surefire X200 on the Surefire MR09 rail adapter on my USPs. That would defeat the purpose since it still accumulates dings and scratches since it's aluminum.

that's a discontinued surefire.

they should have crenellated the bezel. that way if you run out of ammo you can still leave nice marks on someones face with it.

I've heard placing electrical tape on the rail prevents metal-on-metal contact wear; sounds like that would be a pretty discreet way of protecting the finish of your pistol.
