seems 1911s are like camera lens or rifle scopes to get to the next level of perceived performance/value.

      $450 RIA > $750-950 SS loaded/sig/colt/kimberbase > $16-1800 trp DW EBs > $3k+ nighthawks & wilsons

Best comp group is level 2 IMO, more to pick from at that price point. Different metal to pick from and dif sites for how you want to use it. Most i read about RIA, they are getting upgraded to the point of level 2 anyways...

Yep, Rock Island Armory has a great selection of reasonably priced, but well-made 1911's. You can pick up their entry level GI model for around $400 new, used even less.

Check the roster under " Armscor Precision" for a complete list of what's available to us here in California:

I would save up for a used colt xse or springfield ro or loaed. Ria are a good choice but the extra cost is well justified when it comes to 1911's

Get a Citadel over an RIA. Comes with 2 mags instead of one. Same quality.

Here is a good beater 1911 at a good price. If the seller didnt have ridiculous demands I would have bought it already
              WTB:
              1)AR15 Aero Precision Skeletonized Lower
              2)S&W 686 6in barrel ...686 No dash through 686-4
              3) Saltworks M5 upper/lower set

Or you can get a new RIA tactical for $500 @ Riflegear. Turners will be having a Father's Day sale. Might be worth waiting a little to see what they throw up...

$465 around here for a RIA Tactical is a pretty nice "beater". You could spend $750 for a SA Milspec. I'd check out a Citadel if there were any to be found around here. I was asking around a while back about them and they were hard to find.

                      Hey buddy -

I would say a Springfield loaded would be the lowest I would go unless it is a total project gun. Some of the **** that has made it out of the RIA QC department has really surprised me.

I have three rocks. One in 45, two in 9. Love them. I would call them very competitively priced. Not cheap. Honestly, you can't go wrong with them. Just get good mags. I got some shooting stars. They work great.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

At Turner's the Citadel version is usually cheaper then the Rock and as others mentioned it comes with two mags. Last time I saw on sale the Citidal was $450ish. The one I looked at had a tighter slide-to-frame fit then my Rock Tactical does.

As opposed to the QC problems Springfield owners have posted on here? Or my $1300 Kimber that left the factory with non-parallel frame rails?

If the Rock has an issue then Armscor will take care if it and do a better job then Kimber did on mine. Kimber told me that non-parallel rails were ok by their quality standards.

RIA for the win. I sell a lot of them and have had 0 complaints. Sold gun for a low price.
