glock 23 gen 2 with gen 3 magazines

    Hi all,

I have a gen 2 glock 23 and I have a gen 3 or 4 glock 23 13 rd magazine. When I insert the magazine in my gun the top of the baseplate on the magazine is about 1/4" below the bottom of the mag well. It feeds fine but makes the gun a bit longer for ccw. Any suggestions or ideas?

A 10rd magazine will solve that.

Are there design differences between the gen 2 and gen 3 magazines that could cause this issue?

            they are all interchangeable.

edited to add: if you changed the side of the mag release it could cause the issue you are describing and to fix that you will need a gen 4 baseplate but I do not see how the mag would be "longer."

My friend has a Gen 2 G23 and asked me the same question. He lives in Missouri and bought standard Gen 4 mags for it. He said there is an eighth inch gap between the top of the baseplate and the bottom of the well. The only thing I can think is the grip on the Gen 4 is just a little bit longer then the Gen 2. Makes me wonder if any of my old Gen 2 mags would fit in a Gen 4.

Maybe a picture? I have a Gen 2 and Gen 4 Glock 23. The mags sit the same. Of course the Gen 2 has the half-moon front which I personally find uncomfortable so I use different base plates that fill in the moon. But the mags don't sit any differently in the magwells between the two. I use 13-round and 10-round mags old-and-new in both.

There seems to be quite a few Glocks exhibiting this in photos from the web. Here are a couple a found pretty quick.

My friend admitted that the pistol shoots fine with no functional error at all, but was wondering if his pistol was broken somehow. I figure not. I will try to get a pic of his for comparison.

I too use the base plates that fill in the cut out on my Gen 2 frame. Mine are Pearce PG-FML's from ages ago.

^ Not sure if this is what OP is referring to. All of my Glocks...nearly a dozen of them...have mags that don't sit flush with the bottom of the magwell. All have gaps of varying degrees.

If all gen mags are the same length then the grips on the newer frames are shorter. Here's a gen 1
