    9mm range report

Took a new to me but well used 5906 to the range this morning. I haven't shot this gun before so I wasn't knowing what to expect. First up was a mag full of cheapy 9mm Perfecta from Wal-Mart at 7 yards. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this ammo. I was expecting shotgun pattern but it grouped ok for me.

Next was some American Eagle 9mm that I think is 10 or 15 years old. I have had it for a while. This was a less than pleasant surprise though. Same gun, same distance.

Finally I used some Speer lawman I bought on sale at Big 5 for $5 a box back in 1999 (crying on the inside that those prices are long gone). This one wasn't too bad. I was expecting something like this from the AE as well.

I am used to matching .22 to a gun but I wasn't expecting such variance for 9mm. At least for this gun the Perfecta at Walmart appears to be quite the bargain. I recommend checking out a box or two.

Interesting but very unscientific with shooter error and fatigue variables and such. It would be interesting to see this furthered by testing in a Ransom rest. Like you said I expect more variance in stuff like 22lr ammo in a target pistol. I had a old Gun Digest book about 9mm handguns and they did a more precise test and I do remember being quite a difference in ammo types in accuracy.

Perfects ammo is good stuff. My accuracy has never suffered.

        9mm range report

From seven yards, I don't think it were the ammo's. The other variables are:
        - The levels of the targets. The first target where you shot with Perfecta was lower than the others.
        - The background of the targets. The one you shot with Perfecta was orange. The others were white.

I'll pass on perfecta. Out of 250 rounds of perfecta I had 7 fail to feed and 3 failure to eject. Ran 250 rounds of mag tech 9mm right after with zero issue, don't think it was the gun as I was using a brand new glock 17

I think Pefecta is just repackaged Fiocchi. While a good brand I've noticed Perfecta 9mm uses the brass type jacket on the bullet I associate with bargain ammo not a true copper jacket. Some lots of Winchester White box use this brass looking jacket material too.

My wife just picked up some Perfecta at Wally World, too. Didn't bother her Rock or her grouping at all. We had never heard of it before last week. Thanks for the report.

I've gone through about 350 of the Perfecta. It's a bit under-powered but and seems a little dirty. The only real problem I noticed is that the slide would not lock back on the last round from the magazine about 6 or 7 times.

Not bad but I don't know if I'll buy any more.

Follow up non-scientific after action report. Perfecta looks to be the Winchester Wildcat of 9mm. Dirty dirty dirty! Cleaned off easy enough though.

I'll still with Remington and Winchester for my 9mm the perfecta "bargain" is not worth it in my eyes but to each their own.

I didn't think it was any dirtier than Winnie White Box, but it may just be that you get to a certain level of dirty and it doesn't make much of a difference.

My G17 doesn't like Perfecta too much.. shot a 100 rounds and I had way too many tumble through the target.
