So I started a thread about a week back asking which CZ y'all would recommend, when one kind of fell into my lap in a trade. I am now waiting to pick up my CZ 75B on Wednesday and I would like to know if there are any easy changes I can do to it to improve it without sending it off somewhere. I know I should shoot the gun before I start changing things but I'm not familiar with CZ and I don't know if they have any problem parts or easy recommended upgrades. The gun already has a fiber optic front sight and the new rubber grips from the previous owner but I believe that's all he has done. Also, I wanted an SP-01 but this was too good an offer to refuse, is the SP-01 that much better than the 75b? I see they retail for about 650-700 yet they are selling in very used condition for 900 or 1000 in the marketplace, why is that? They aren't even really upgraded or worked on.

The SP01 is highly sought after since it looks badass, has a light rail, and is basically one of the heaviest guns you can use for the Stock Service Pistol/Production divisions in competitions. The extra weight up front gives the impression of little to no felt recoil. It also has the "Gen 4" beavertail. I have no idea why people think that an SP01 can be worth that much but some folks do spend quite a bit of money on upgrades that can basically give it Race gun status but still look "Stockish". Until recently, SP01's were hard to come by.So I started a thread about a week back asking which CZ y'all would recommend, when one kind of fell into my lap in a trade. Almost all of the upgrades that can be done to an SP01 can be done to a regular 75. The CZ Custom Shop and Cajun Gunworks can sell you all of the parts you need. There are plenty of walk throughs online that show in great detail how to install the mods as well how to do a proper action job.
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about that beavertail unless you take it to a talented gunsmith and have material added and then get it reshaped and refinished. The 75b beavertail is not bad, but the current beavertails feel a tad better.
There is also the Shadow series of the CZ75, but we can cover that some other day.

I suggest shooting the 75B before you decide to do anything with it, then decide . I have a 75SA and a 75 compact and both were good to go out of the box. I dry fired them both about 1k times before I shot them though. Sometimes people get hung up on needing to "fix" CZ's when it really isn't necessary.WTB: Sig P245 or P220 Compact

I shoot an SP01 in competition. This gun took me to USPSA Master Class. But the 75B is very similar. So I started a thread about a week back asking which CZ y'all would recommend, when one kind of fell into my lap in a trade. I did all of my own Glock Gunsmithing, but I would be a little leary of doing things to a CZ if you have no experience. Just watch some you tube videos of complete disassembly and re-assembly to get a sense of the complexity of the gun.
You get what you pay for. CGW and CZC do a great job.Comment

Some of the easy and cheep upgrades are going to be springs. For a few bucks you can get lighter hammer and recoil springs. Both are pretty easy to change out. It sounds like you may have the grips and front sight covered already. So I started a thread about a week back asking which CZ y'all would recommend, when one kind of fell into my lap in a trade. If it shoots well for you as is, i would shoot the crap out of it before changing anything. This way you will have a good baseline to better appreciate future upgrades if you feel the need.Vive La Exile Machine!!

I have a 75 B that I have put around 3000 rds through so far. After about 500 rds the trigger grit went away and after about 2000 rds the trigger REALLY smoothed out, as well as the slide to frame fit and the thing is a really nice shooter.
So......just putting a lot of rounds through the thing makes it run like a clock.
I shoot mine in IDPA and I found that blacking out the rear sight dots improved the sight picture immensely.Comment

+1 for shooting before mods, and it does take 500 or so rounds for the grittiness to resolve. Put your money into ammo imo. CZ makes a great product but unfortunately they are like potato chips.Comment

Shooting a CZ utill it feels somewhat smooth is nice, but a proper trigger/action job feels worlds better.
A fully modded CZ feels and shoots like a totally different gun.Last edited by himurax13; 05-04-2015, 10:17 AM.Originally posted by BumslieHK - the best 600 dollar gun, 900 dollars can buy.Originally posted by SleighterGetting legal advice from a gun salesman, is like getting medical advice from a janitor at a hospital. You've already got two of the modifications (and the only modifications) that I've done to my 75B. I changed the grips to Hogue with the finger grips and put fiber sights on it. In my case, I have fiber on the front and rear. In my opinion the CZ out of the box only has one real defect - the sights.
I did the same mods to my 75 SA - sights and grip panels.
Shoot the gun a lot to get a good feel of how it operates. Then decide if you want to muck around with more significant modifications.
Is the SP-01 that much better than the 75B? If you want to mount a light on it then yes, it is. If you want to reduce the muzzle flip a little bit more than what you get with the 75B, then again, it's better. Certainly the night sights are better than the stock sights on the 75B and here I am talking about normal lighting, the white rings around the tritium tubes make for a better daylight sight than the stock 75B sites. Is it worth 900-1000 in the used market for a stock pistol, not in my book. Just remember that my opinion is free and worth everything that you paid for.Send Lawyers, Guns and Money - On second thought, hold the Lawyers.Comment

In the past several months I've seen $659-679 at 3 different retailers in SoCal. Good deals do surface here n there in the CG sales section but imo 85% of sellers are unrealistic, 95% when it comes to CZs.Comment

Nothing really NEEDS changing out on a CZ. Sounds like you're getting it used, I'd be curious how many rounds have been fired through it already. Nonetheless, like others have said, spend money on ammo before any mods. Find a decent deal on 1,000 rounds of cheap stuff somewhere, and shoot a minimum of 500 rounds before you upgrade anything that will affect the trigger. This is exactly what I did with my SP01, but shot closer to 1,000 rounds before doing any modifications. However, I just recently purchased and installed some goodies from Cajun Gun Works, and the trigger is sweet. I added their Ring Hammer, extended firing pin with spring and stronger firing retainer pin, and 13# hammer spring. Also added better hammer pins. The work isn't crazy hard, but it's not exactly beginner level either. The hardest part for me was getting one of the hammer pins out as it was partially staked.

A lot of people are intimidated by CZs, so I did a beginners guide to an action job, took lots of pictures and posted it on the Brian Enos Forum: CZ Tuning 101 with Professor AtlasThe CalGunner formerly known as jjdurso

Any 75b or Sp-01 are great shooters. Best bang for your dollar IMO. If you can get your hands on a 97b, another great 45acp. Stock or modified they feel great and shoot great. I have drank the cz cool aid and can't get enough.Comment
