    cz 97s- vs M&P45

Hey Cal gunners, so finally funds have stablized with work, and i have taken care fo a few outstanding bills, looking for next purchase

so far i have found a cz97B for about a lil under 700 dollars, a cz97 BD for about 785, and a M&P45 for about 680 (it also comes with an extra threaded barrel, which peaked my attention)

first is the price difference with tha BD (decocker version) that much more than a B? what are pros and cons. or am i just wanting one just to want one? or should i stick with the M&P series which i have all the 9 mm versions for? both carry 10 rounds so im not too worried about that, i know the mechanics of the M&P very well from all my 9 mm versions. but there is just something about the CZs and in a 45 which i just love (been itching for an all metal pistol for a while) am i thinking too hard on this?

anyone who has experience with any of these firearms please offer some insight, much appreciated

    Thanks in advance

I would get the CZ97B. I am old school, there is just something about a steel gun that appeals ME. I also like the aesthetics of the CZs compared to a Smith M&P series of guns.

Sorry, its just a personal thing and not too substantial.

          I say:

It depends on your hand size.

The M&P45 grip is significantly smaller than the 97B.

I had a 97, sold it due to the grip size, kept my M&P45 (which is now for sale, haha).

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

While i am partial to the CZ, i would definitely suggest shooting a CZ97 before buying one. The grip is quite deep for some folks. Otherwise i have found the CZ97BD to be one of the most accurate 45's around and like all CZ's a pleasure to shoot.

What exactly do you mean by deep grip?

Set deep against the web of the hand when holding it?

This. As much as I like it, the 97 is just too big for my tastes. Its great for folks who have bear paws.

Nowadays, I only pick up stuff I can compete with and since the 97's come with a full length Dustcover and weigh as much as a mack truck, I can't use it for IDPA. In USPSA, you can only really be competitive with it in Limited 10.

I presume Tok36 is referring to the distance from the rear of the grip to the front face of the trigger, known as "trigger reach". The shorter this distance the better a pistol fits people with smaller hands and/or shorter fingers.

Since you are itching for a steel pistol you should go with the CZ.
The grip is large but its not much different than a Beretta 92.
You should try to shoot one, the large grip was not a problem at all for me.

Two different animals. I like most of the CZ's that I have shot, but the M&P 45 in one of my favs. Very accurate, comfortable, size is quite manageable, and an extra barrel would be very enticing to me. I would not hesitate!

Apples and oranges. SA/DA steel hammer fired pistol against a polymer striker fired pistol. Both are quality firearms. There is no better or worse, only personal preference. YOU need to decide what YOU like/want. Not us.

If you go the CZ route, however, skip the safety. On a SA/DA gun there really is no need for a safety. It's effectively just like a revolver. And one more thing to have to worry about in fight.

the CZ safety will not engage when the hammer is down. Double action is the safety like a revolver or Sig DA.

The Safety CAN be engage when the hammer cocked back and can now carry cocked and lock like a 1911 in single action mode w/ 1/2 the trigger pull distance and weight. Best of both worlds, giving the shooter how to carry or handle the gun.

I would say m&p 45 as they are absolute tack drivers. I have owned every 45 under the sun including some les baer's ect. M&P just points naturally and is very reliable soft shooting pistol. I even sold my hk45's because I just shoot the m&p so much better.
