Brand new Glock 17 issues ( need serious help )
So I recently purchased a Glock 17 and followed the instructions and took it apart and cleaned and lubed it up as they recommended. I then took it to the local range to use 250 rounds of new quality 9mm 115 Fiocchi FMJ with my 2 brand new factory California 10 round magazines that came with it.
Much to my surprise things started off horrible right off the bat. I was getting feeding failures every other round. I wasn't quite sure what the FTF issue was but there as an unfired round loaded a little farther in the chamber and a tilted round trying to feed, is this called a double feed?
This kept happening literally every other round right off the start. This happened for 20 rounds ( for both brand new factory stock magazines ) until the range guy recommended I take it apart and inspect it and lube it up once more. I took it apart and looked it over and nothing looked seriously wrong so I lubed it and then was back at firing.
This time the problem only seemed to occur every 5 rounds or so. I was getting very frustrated at this point and had no idea what I was going to do, that's when the problems started to occur less and less until there was the feed problem every 20-30 rounds or so. This happened for my remaining 200+ rounds ( I also got a single stove pipe during all this ). I was glad the problem no longer occured as often as it did at the start but am still not willing to bet my life on this firearm at it's current state.
I'm still really perplexed why the problem was happening less and less and wondered if it had to do with the gun having to be broken in, the lubrication seeping into the right places, or the magazine springs becoming less stiff? ( anyone have any idea? )
Once I went home I took apart the gun and was surprised to find it was doing this to my magazines, is this typical wear on a glock magazine? ( I'm guessing no, my gun was like cutting into mostly the sides of the top of the plastic as seen here:
I also noticed these issues while inspecting the insides of the fire arm and was not sure if it's any cause for concern, the recoil spring rod looking a bit strange with a greyish color?
Also I noticed A slight chip ( slight wear already? ) on the steel rails that were lubricated prior to firing
Please note I was NOT limp wristing the firearm or riding the slide lock and other shooters at the range confirmed it so that can be confidently ruled out.
Anyone have ANY idea what is happening? I hope it is magazine related and the magazine wear I showed pictures of is of great concern to me, I wanted to get your opinions and comments of it before I contacted Glock support.
