Does an idiot scratch on my Kimber

make it less valuable? Or does it make me unworthy of firearm ownership? Should I turn in my man card?

It's the "Kimber" part that makes it less valuable...

To answer your question..yes, any damage to the finish of a firearm will affect the value in a negative manner.

Are you offering to turn in your man card? If so...the answer is yes.

If you don't want to scratch or otherwise blemish your shooters then you need to wrap em up and put them in the safe and never ever touch and or look at them again.

If you want to shoot your shooters then get used to some marks. Nothing you can do to stop them. Sure every new one will get you but after a while you will not care anymore.

Have fun and enjoy shooting them.

Figure $50 discount for an idiot scratch on a low end 1911 ($1000 or less MSRP).

^This. I was asking this question tongue-in-cheek. Why call it an "idiot" scratch? But more importantly, why get all bent outta shape? It a gun for shooting. It's gonna get scratched. Gives it character.

That ladylike signature on the slide makes you unworthy of your man card!

I feel like an idiot scratch lowers the value a bit more then the same sized scratch somewhere else on the gun. Alot of people wont even purchase a 1911 with an idiot scratch.
