G17c or G34?

I own and shoot a G19 Gen4 and want to add another Glock. Sadly it has to be a Gen3 but no worries to me. My question is: between the Glock 17 Compensated vs Glock 34 both in 9mm. Which one should I choose and why? G34 is longer barrel 17 frame. 17c is no longer being made and has ported barrel and slide. Both still on roster. Not looking for any other gun suggestions. Just set on these two just not sure which one I should pick. Thanks.

what are your goals/ intended use? That's prob important...
I think the only major difference is the length/sight radius

I don't shoot IDPA or competition. Just for plinking. Only reason I'm choosing the 17c or 34 is longer barrel vs 19. I can easily get a 17 and be happy but why not try something different like compensated or 5" barrel that comes with extended mag release/slide lock and adjustable rear sights? This is more for the range. My 19 is 4" and my TP9SA is 4.5" so the barrel up to 4.5" is covered. Really the 17c is for the c if that makes sense and the 34 will be for the barrel/trigger.

IMHO the compensator is a waste of money. I had them on a .40 and have it on my 10mm. They really should be ported in front of the bbl as they can goo up your front sight. Either way, it ruins your night vision. The 34 has the advantage of a longer sight radius. I don't think there would be any significant velocity increase.
You can always get an extended bbl that is ported.

I would go 34, for the cheaper 2 in 1 combo...
With the 34 you can go nuts on a ported barrel from Lone Wolf. I think extended barrel you can get 6 ports (vs the 2 on the factory 17c) in a 34 cut slide.

You can not go the other way from a 17c to a longer sigh radius without a new slide.

I've read that the C gets dirty not sure if that's Gen 3 old version vs newest Gen 3 17c they fixed the issue and ported it backwards vs the front. I'm leaning towards the 34 myself. Longer slide. Easier to shoot. Longer sight radius.

Yeah..the 34 is an awesome shooter. It's balanced, and has great pointability.

Per your request. Don't read the following:

I would get a Glock 35 in .40. Another awesome shooter that has potential for gun games and self defense. Then buy a LoneWolf barrel to convert it to 9MM (G34-same-same) and you have two handguns in one. The barrel just drops in, same recoil spring.

Another advantage of the G35 is you can also run a .357SIG barrel using the same .40 magazines. Just a barrel swap and you're shooting .357SIG, almost armor piercing....haha. Real fun. 3 handguns in one...

My 9MM barrel is the compensated model. It works good but yeah, stuff flys up
If you're shooting dirty ammo reloads. If I did it over I would get the solid barrel. 9MM has so little recoil anyway.....

34. If you ever decide to get into the uspsa game which I highly recommend, you've got a good production class gun for it. Compensation on a 17 is of no use IMHO and also isn't production class legal either. 34 can be easily compensated if you really want to play around with it by buying a new barrel as the slide is already relieved. Sights suck on both out of the box. Switch them to something better. Dawson's are my personal choice. Black adjustable rear, fiber optic front for gaming and range work, Dawson night sights for a HD setup.

I really like them. Not to make a right turn on this thread but they work really nice on the Glock 26/27 and give your little finger a nice place to grip.

The compensated 9's are pointless. On the .40 S&W they make a noticeable difference. Either way, most gun games won't let you run with them or you have to get a non compensated barrel.

The whole night vision being ruined is bunk. I had zero issues running the comp in a low light situation. However the point about the front sight getting soot on it is valid.

I love my 17, and I love my 34, the trigger and extended slide release in the 34 are nice , just saying, but the correct answer is both

Never known anyone to like the C models..
34 all the way! IMO the 19 and 17 are too similar to me. But I know lots of people feel that there is a big difference.

majority of the glocks I own are compensated models:
g17c, g22c, g19c, g23c, and I like them a lot enough to collect them.

However, for a game gun, you cant go wrong with either of your choices but I'd rather have the g34/g35.
