My .50 DE is an ex-rental from a gun store that rents a lot of guns at their range. I'll bet more than a few posters here shot it before its retirement.

I wouldn't worry about the wear and tear on yours.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

this may come as no help to you, but i'll give an opinion nevertheless. i wouldn't want to refinish what the factory delivered unless it was necessary to maintain the integrity of the gun's metal.

Finish looks fine, but there's nothing wrong with getting a custom finish. If you want to keep it a factory gun, send it back to Magnum Research. They will put any of their factory custom finishes on for you. Cost is very reasonable, maybe even less than if you went to the refinisher directly. Back when the DE's were all made in Israel, they all came in the same black oxide finish; a few were sent to the custom finish contractor where the factory finish was stripped off and one of the custom finishes applied.

My .02 is shoot it and refinish only when you have to. Keep her well lubed and clean after every use. These DE's get extremely dirty even after 20-30 rounds. Cleaning is a chore with the DE, its easy, but just takes a bit of time.

I clean everything after a session with my Mark XIX, and oil generously. The process takes me about 25-30 Minutes.

Otherwise enjoy, and pick up cheaper priced ammo (Hornady) online or at the next gunshow.

You can always gold plate it like this one that's being sold used on Turner's website.

Wow, their pictures are a lot bigger than they look. Sorry about that, I don't know how to resize it.

                      FordsGuns.com

Sent a half dozen of my Desert Eagles there and they do amazing work. DO NOT EXPECT FAST TURN AROUND TIME AND DO NOT CALL AND ASK FOR AN UPDATE. Mail them the gun and just be happy when 6-12 months later it comes back.

Titaniumgun.com if you want a TiN coat.
Techplate.com for other finishes such as polished chrome etc.
These places are in socal and have decent turnaround times.

Looking at Titaniumgun.com. Reasonable pricing but I am afraid of scratching the hell out of the finish when trying to reassemble. Has anyone ever reassembled a DE frame?

That's why I always suggest Fords. Mail them a complete gun and they mail you back a complete gun. The wait is well worth it.
