642 Trigger Job

Has anyone ever gotten a trigger job for their 642? If so, what did it bring the trigger pull down to (I think they're about 12 pounds now.) Anybody know of anyone who does trigger jobs in Orange County?

If you want to lighten the trigger Brownells sells the Wolff trigger springs for a J frame. It might cost you 15 bucks. You should be able to install it yourself. I would try that first before spending $$$.

If you do that then grab a bunch of different ammo and make sure it is reliable. If they all fire then you are GTG.

I don't want the trigger of my carry gun touched. God for bid I have to defend myself and the DA points to the jury that the gun had a "trigger job".

Carry guns have a heavier trigger for a good reasson. I dry fired my 442 & 642 thousands of times. The trigger does get smoother.

Agreed. My 442 trigger seems easier and easier everytime I pull it.
I wouldn't want it any lighter for carry use.

I would go by a 638 then you can go double or single action. I would leave the 442 at factory specs.

Agreed with the rest, I wouldn't trigger job your carry piece in our sue-happy state. Get some snap caps and just watch TV pulling the trigger and work it in...

Nope- you won't find a court reference here.

I would bet no one in court would ever notice a trigger job or spring kit if you kept your mith shut. It's NEVER going to be a 5lb pull, it's still a DA revolver
A match 1911 with a 1.5lb pull on the other hand...

This would ONLY come up if you shot someone once too- if you pop an armed intruder 5 times, it's obviously not an accidental misfire, is it?

Pull-wise, may drop it down a couple of pounds, but it still won't be light.

I would replace the stock spring with the lightest weight spring in the wolff kit. A lot of people have trigger work done even cops and even on their backup guns.

A gun that is shootable is worth more than a gun that you can't shoot well.

Having said that, my 642 has the stock spring but it's been dryfired thousands of times and it's pretty smooth. It's not hard to squeeze off an accidental shot during rapid fire practise.

I had a trigger job done to my bodyguard model. It just didn't work for me so I thought a trigger job would help. What was done was lighter springs installed and some file and polishing work on the control parts. It didn't help my 2 foot groups a 7 yards much at all . The rounded hammer area and the size seem to hold the muzzel rise so follow up shots are all over the place.
It would be worth testing our guns together. Mine is the single /double action set-up . With the lighter springs the trigger pull for the single action is way way too light for me. The action is very smooth on double, wanna trade? I was thinking that the shape of the 442 or 642 would work better for me. A L.E. leutenant I know likes the Taurus version as he shoots it really well even at 25 yards. Meet me in Oceanside for some testing!
