Fiber Optic sights

Has anyone in here installed FO sights on their CZ's? Few of my CZ's have stock sights, and I'm thinking about replacing them with some of these FO, but not sure how they would look on the guns.

My 75 Shadow has the fiber optic front sight and I like it a lot. For my competition shooting, it helps bring the front sight into focus faster.

If you intend to carry/home defense, recommendation is to keep the stock sights or replace with a similar tritium set up.

If this is for play - target shoot, competitions it is the preferred.


Installing them is the tricky part-ish. The rear is an easy tap out with a brass punch and tap in as such. The front sight is retained by a rolling pin that can be easily punched out. New sights from CZ custom do not have it indexed for the rolling pin, you will need to 'drill' out the slot for some sights.


Personal observation: you may experience the rear sights drifting if you do not lock them down with loctite (I am using green to keep them in).

I run FO on all of my Competition Pistols.

The real problem is trying to figure out which one to get. Trying to figure out what Height and Width you need can be a daunting task.

You have only have 2 brands to choose from, either Dawson Precision or CZ Custom sights.

I have CZ Custom sights on both of my CZ's and Dawson's on my 1911's. With aging eyes the FO sights really helps for competition.

FO is great for quick reaction self-defense type shooting where the aim is simply hits on target but not so much for bullseye shooting where the aim is tiny groups on paper.

CZ Customs that came on my Shadow Target... Really like 'em.

I've shot the shadow with these sights, the first time I ever shot it all 10 rounds went in one ragged hole, I want these sights for my 1911 9mm.

I went with one from Dawson Precision, and here it how it looks.





I don't know if I am remembering correctly, but I seem to recall that the fiber on the Dawson sights was slightly smaller in diameter for a bit more precision shooting? I could be full of crock, but that is what I recall.

These definitely help my aging eyes.

They're not that hard to do and I'm mechanically challenged. I prefer red, 1.0 for IDPA and 1.5 for Steel. I'm accurate enough with the 1.5's, pick them up quicker and with my aging eyes, so might switch out the 1.0's in IDPA.

Did you buy it as is or you have to buy the sight frame and the fiber optic separately? I'm under the impression that you buy the fiber optic strand, thread it into the sight, cut it to fit, then burn both ends of the strand. In other words, it's not ready to install right off the bat. I maybe wrong on this, but I read this in CZ custom website.

The Dawson's have nice serrations and different widths, but they only have one size if FO. They also use a setscrew instead of needing to drill the roll pin notch.

The CZC sights have 2 sizes of FO but no serrations and need the roll pin notch drilled.

Both come with enough FO for 3 or so uses.

Green is less distracting but the red stands out more.

The best one is user preference.

might as well post my solution, drill the stock sight and put in f/o

just installed cz f/o fronts and used the 6.5 mm no change in aim

cz 75 rear sight with painted dimples as stock
