    Sig 220 mag problem

So I took my Sig to the range a few days ago. It has maybe 400 rounds through it that have all run flawlessly through these same mags. However I dont always load them all the way up to 8 rounds, I often just do 3 or 4 rounds (plus a snap cap or two) to get practice clearing malfunctions.

So the other day I was trying to load full mags and my 220 mags would not take the 8th round. 3 out of my 4 mags had the same issue. And no it wasn't my weak thumbs. I asked two other guys to help try to load the 8th rounds and same thing. I actually thought I was gonna break my Uplula speedloader I was pushing so hard and not a budge. And removing the rounds was a huge PITA. Something is definitely causing a jam in there.

Anybody ever had a problem loading up a Sig 220 mag? I was shooting American Eagle 230gr FMJ's. Im guessing maybe the OAL was just too much but maybe there are other issues you guys can help me with?

First thing I'd do is break down the mags and make sure there isn't anything in them that could be causing a problem. I've never had a problem with Sig mags other than shooting in area's that tend to get sand and crap in the mags. There have been issues with some ammo being a bit too long binding mags up, but that is usually a hollow point not ball ammo.

Are you sure you have 8 round mags. The early P220's came with 7 round mags too.

The 8th round on some of my P220 mags is extremely difficult to get in. Break your mags down, make sure there's nothing in there preventing the 8th round from going in and give them a good cleaning.

If you push down the rounds by the nose to load they'll get stuck. and my guess is if you're using the loader pushing it from the back gets them stuck when you're close to full capacity. I find that if I push the casing down equally from nose to rear it loads fine

Friend of mine has a 220 that won't except more than 2 steel cased rounds into any of the mags. Same ammo in different pistols... no problems.

My first thought was that you had 7rd mags or the early 7rd mags with the short followers that allowed them to hold 8rds.

I've never has a problem loading 8rds into the true 8rd mags...nor trouble removing them.

Which brand of mags are you using?
If they are factory SIG mags, are they the German or Italian ones?

Sig 220 mags are VERY sensitive to OAL. Mine won't load steel case more than 3 rounds. Never had any issues with quality brass cased stuff. Grab some WWB or even federal. All defense ammo has been GTG
