    When SHTF, do you really think you will have time for a LCI check?
    You are the perfect candidate for a double action revolver. No need to rack the slide. No need to Cock & Lock. No need for a decocker. No LCI checks needed if every chamber (cylinders) in the cylinder is loaded. Wow, what a relief that must be, Hugh?

    The number one safety rule? "Treat all guns as if they are loaded. Always assume that a gun is loaded even if you think it is unloaded."

      CLI = Chamber Load Indicator (what is required by CA laws).
      LCI = Loaded Chamber Indicator

      CA laws/regulations requires a CLI, not a LCI.

      There are physical differences between a CLI and LCI.

      As used in this part, "chamber load indicator" means a device that plainly indicates that a cartridge is in the firing chamber. A device satisfies this definition if it is readily visible, has incorporated or adjacent explanatory text or graphics, or both, and is designed and intended to indicate to a reasonably foreseeable adult user of the pistol, without requiring the user to refer to a user's manual or any other resource other than the pistol itself, whether a cartridge is in the firing chamber.

        This is out of line.
        So you assume that because you don't have the presence of mind to make sure you have a loaded pistol before you go down stairs to see who just kicked your door in, that no one else will either?
        Especially when you can do it quickly and in the dark with a well designed chamber loaded indicator such as the XD has? Good grief.
        As to "always assume your gun is loaded"... I say you'd better make damn sure that it is!

        Bosh

        PS, do I think chamber loaded indicators should be mandatory? Hell no.

          As already noted, you're an idiot if you confront a home invader without already verifying your gun is loaded. Yes, you should know the status of your firearm at all times, but when it's three in the morning and you've been awoken from a dead sleep by a crashing sound downstairs, you might not not be thinking clearly. I just think it's a nice double check to be able to run my finger over the slide to know its loaded. One less thing to worry about in a high stress situation.
