    1 in 30 Rejection

So I started a DROS at Riflegear last Wednesday, then minutes after I walked out realized that I wasn't out of my 30 day limit yet. Went back inside but the salesperson said I couldn't cancel that DROS and had to come back after the DROS got rejected.

Went home and checked my paperwork, my 30 days are up on 3-30. Called Riflegear and the rep told me to write an email requested that my original DROS be cancelled, but when I did I received a reply back that a DROS couldn't be cancelled. Called today to see if the DROS was rejected yet... was told to just come in and cancel it?

So tomorrow is 3-30 and at noon I will officially be eligible to start a new DROS. Riflegear is a bit of a drive for me, but I'm also eager to start my DROS. Does anyone know, can I cancel a DROS? And if not, can I start a new DROS with the same serial # before the first one has been formally rejected?

I once cancelled a DROS while it was in process. Dealer told me to wait 24 hours before starting anything new just to make sure the cancellation went through. To be safe, I waited 48 hours, started a new DROS and picked up my gun 10 days later without any problems. The 1-in-30 rule was not an issue for me.

Yes, you can cancel the DROS. You will most likely be charged for it and have to pay to DROS it again.

That is silly. At that point you should have asked for a manager. He probably didn't have the permissions to cancel it, a manager should have been able to.

I don't know the FUD Riflegear was giving you, but cancelling a DROS is an easy process. They just log into the DOJ DROS system, click a couple of boxes and the DROS is cancelled. The state still charges them for the DROS and that cost will be passed on to you.

Note to self: put Riflegear on my 'do not purchase from' list.

To be fair, Riflegear has always been great in the past and really knew their stuff. I don't feel like they have wasted my time in any way, even had I cancelled the DROS right then I would still have to make a second trip today to start a new one.

I don't mean to defame them in any way, at the root of it I could have avoided this myself by being more concious of my 30 days. One rep made a contradictory statement on the phone, but mistakes happen and I will happily deal with them in the future.

Thanks again to everyone who chimed in, will update as events develop!

I agree with Rhyyke. I have been a customer of Riflegear for at least five years and have made more purchases than I can remember without a single problem. Their biggest problem is that they are so popular that there is typically a wait, even when they have 6 or 7 salesmen on the floor. It is one of the best gun stores in the area IMHO. Very professional and courteous.

BTW I am not an employee.
                          And so it goes...

Isn't there a check box on the form if you are already on a 30 day hold? I think there is...

I'm sure there was, and I probably checked it without thinking just like I check the boxes that ask if I'm an American citizen and whether I'm a drug user. Didn't think it through because I thought I already knew the answer, so ultimately my mistake.
