Fun games for indoor range?

I am planning on taking a bunch of friends to the LAX range this weekend. They all have varying degrees of experience with shooting. Most have only shot handguns a couple times, one or two have had some training and I know them to be safety minded. I plan to have 1 trained / knowledgeable person per lane as a general safety officer since most of these guys are new. I am thinking 2-3 lanes with 2-4 people per lane (head count unknown at this point but at least 6 people).

I am certain everyone will have a good time, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on fun challenges or games to play for newbies. I know there will be limitations due to the indoor range. No clays, no steel, no reactive stuff other than shoot-n-see type targets, no mag dumps (one shot per second).

So, any suggestions? Would those battleship, poker, or darts targets be to challenging for new shooters?

It's been years, but doesnt lax have a couple lanes devoted to protected targets/games? Those are pretty entertaining.

My friend printed dartboard targets. Try something like that.
Just like throwing darts, even though you know how to do it, doesn't mean you can always repeat it.

^^This is why my range no longer allows people to shoot 50AE. Not my bag anyway but my brother was displeased.


OP - i have seen that some of the available paper targets at my range are designed for games. Like the ones with all of the billiard balls on them.

You can do the "Follow the Leader" game where one shooter fires a shot and the rest try to come as close to his shot as possible. It's strange how some people's accuracy goes right out the window when they are aiming at the bottom left-hand edge of the target instead of shooting for center mass all the time.

You can also challenge everyone to take 25 shots and see who can draw the best picture of something with their shots (a rabbit, a smiley face, etc.)

some ranges let you hang a tennis ball from the hanger, but I am not sure LAX is one of those. Anyways if you can we play a game of horse with three rounds per shooter per try. Whoever gets the first shot gets to pick the distance.

Honestly if they're that new, I would think they have more than enough to focus on with just the basic fundamentals and getting comfortable with firearms. I'd leave the "games" out of it and concentrate on safety rules, grip, stance, trigger control and basic weapon's manipulation.

Have them load only a small number of rounds at a time to get them more experience with loading mags, loading and manipulating the weapon, etc. If you're using DA/SA guns, have them shoot from hammer down so they experience both trigger pulls. You could bring along some snap caps and have them take turns loading, say, four rounds for each other without knowing where the snap cap is going to be, and the have them practice clearing the weapon. I'd keep it all really basic.

I second the Billiard game. Colorful and challenging enough to keep the noobs entertained and not overly easy for those that have shot a few times.
