Sig P220 and hollow points

Hello all, let me start off with saying sorry for asking something that has been asked before or is common knowledge. I'm still new to the world of handguns and I hope to one day not need to do this as often. Now the question:

Those of you with Sig P220's, what's your favorite round for home defense/ carry? I tried Hornady Critical Defense but I noticed that due to the front taper of the magazines and longer bullet, they tend to not feed reliably through the mags. I can get the first shot off but the rest get in a nosedive like jam and won't feed.

Any recommendations?
Any warnings?

So far I'm leaning towards either Federal Guard Dogs, Barnes, or the Winchester Ranger T's and curious about liberty defense ammo

Hmm... it doesn't sound like a P220 to jam on you. They have a reputation to eat everything.

Have you tried other magazines?

I have never had a problem with any of my 220's feeding any bullets of any kind. You may want to try again with a new magazine and possibly a new recoil spring as that is unusual.

With that said my favorite round is Federals HST, Ranger Ts would be a distant second.

I have never had an ammo issue with my 220. I've put several hundred rounds of Ranger T through it as well as various other's. Hornady Critical Defense rounds are engineered for short barreled CCW guns. I haven't tried any in a full sized gun so I'm not sure of the functionality. Critical Duty may be a better choice for a full sized gun.

As mentioned above it sounds more like a mag issue than the gun itself, since the rounds aren't clearing the mag. If they were jamming on the feed ramp that would be different. What you are describing is similar to an issue I've seen a few time with the mag spring installed backwards, but if you haven't disassembled the mags that's not likely.

Are you using factory Sig mags or aftermarket? Some aftermarket mags are better used as paperweights, than a feed device.

My 220 eats anything. HST is what I have loaded for HD

I'm 100% sure it's the magazines, not the gun. It has been reliable with pretty much every thing else including crappy Tul-ammo. As I've stated the front of the factory mags have these folds on either side, in the front, that fold just ever so slightly inward, that I assume help the bullet straighten out before feeding into the gun. The issue I had was that the squared, sharp or less rounded shape of the bullet nose was catching on these after the first round fired. The Critical Defense bullets I noticed were just a smidge longer. The only magazines I have are the 2 factory 8 rounders and one Pro Mag 10 rounder that is strictly for range use

If you want to debug the magazine problem, post pictures and we can help you. Sig mags are pretty picky about the lips. IMO, you need a lot more mags than 2. Are both your Sig factor mags doing it?

So this picture that I put as an attachment is not of my gun or magazine but I circled the area I'm talking about that's causing my issues, hope I uploaded this right. I'd post pictures of my own magazine but unfortunately Im not home and won't be until Friday morning :/

Interesting. I originally misunderstood you. It sounds like the problem isn't in the lips. When you get home, check that the mag springs are inserted correctly.

Google didn't show other ppl having the same problem you do. Maybe call Sig and ask them what the devil is going on?
